He got reelected again. I mean people know his deal, he has always been like this. |
Blair may have spent a ton of money in the election, but he was terrible in actually making clear how he would have been different. And Elrich seized on an issue that MoCo voters do care about by acting as though he is not in the pocket of developers (while Blair definitely was). It's too bad there aren't better candidates in these races. |
I don’t buy that. Elrich just took advantage of the fact that the opposition to him was split among a few candidates. One on one vs Blair he would have lost by huge amounts. |
So if things would have been different, things would have been different? The fact is that county voters elected Elrich to county-wide office in 2006, 2010, 2014, 2018, and 2022. |
My only point is that his re-election wasn’t some kind of mandate for tax increases. Any council member voting for this needs to keep in mind that Elrich got less than 40% in the dem primary. They may not have the advantage of a split opposition in their next race. |
It might not be a mandate for tax increases, but it is also not a mandate against tax increases. |
I didn’t even vote for him, but at this point he might be the only thing saving us from the county council and the planning board. |
Also elected by voters: the members of the county council. |
Want to know why a guy like Elrich got re-elected as County Executive?
Because only 27.04% of eligible voters bothered to vote in 2022. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwiZ9uq1zvf9AhVdMVkFHaqKAqkQFnoECA8QAQ&url=https%3A%2F%2Felections.maryland.gov%2Fpress_room%2F2022_stats%2FOfficial%2520by%2520Party%2520and%2520County.pdf&usg=AOvVaw1zYWjkxhAAzp1Zr_Sfy_vc He knows this. The Takoma mafia knows this. Most residents do not even know who Marc Elrich is or that there is a County Executive position. That is why they come up with ideas that would otherwise get them trounced out of office most anywhere else in the U.S. He can waltz around and pretend that he is speaking on behalf of all county residents, but in reality, he is only representing a tiny minority that runs the county with impunity. Get people to vote and maybe some sanity would return to Montgomery County. |
He built last year's budget on one time federal funds and raided the reserve. Everyone knew he couldn't sustain government without a tax increase. |
Because he got the most votes. |
His main trick is educated voters are fleeing the county to be replaced by foreign citizens under temporary status. (Relatives who are hosting them are legally voting) That’s now the reality in Moco and Elrich is smart enough to run the place like a Central American - tax the rich, get rapid bus system in place, hand out state jobs to reinforce Democratic base. Rise and repeat. He will ride this strategy to Annapolis. Casa de Maryland is a power broker to contend with. |
When you put a lot of words into a bowl, add some word dressing, and then stir. |
Maybe. Do you have anything to support your assertions beyond your own wishful thinking? I considered voting for Blair in the last two elections. He offered few specifics on how he planned to carry out his broad goals. His emails and flyers seemed geared to constituents and interests very different from my own. I also appreciate the way that Elrich and Hogan handled COVID. While I might have voted for someone other than Elrich, there’s no way that I would have voted for Blair — based on the way he presented himself. I’m prepared to be a reasonabley informed voter. Blair didn’t seem interested in my vote — even when I briefly met him in person. NP. |
As was Donald Trump at one time, and so might be Ron DeSantis. So, should we just lay back and enjoy it if that happens? Or should we respond to their actions? |
