Pretty solid showing by Langley....

I watched both games. Madison played Ok but looked a little sloppy. Was never threatened and an easy win. WestPo is definitely down this year. Robinson/Langley was a good game. Robo dominated face offs. Langley got two 2 minute unreleasable penalties and I think Robinson scored four goals off those. Pretty close otherwise.

Robinson only got one g not 4 on the 2 full time penalties. Face off was dominated by Robo. Langley showed up and played really well. The top 5 teams can’t sleep on them. Both teams missing key guys due to spring break and injuries. Madison LB will highlight Monday games.

Just watched the video today - looked like three or four to me - game was pretty close but the score went from 8-6 to 11-6 during the second one. Anyway, decent game and Robo earned the W.

Langley played tough and proved they can hang with the “big boys”…

Langley parent here. Agreed that Robo earned the W. It was a good game. Frustrating at times, of course, but kudos to ROBO for capitalizing on the opportunities to ring up the scores. Boys on both sides played well. Definitely saw things we can adjust and work on to be a better team. Congrats to robo on the win. Great chemistry and selfless plays on both sides will position both teams to go far.

Man up goals are part of the game. How many did Langley score while man up? And yes, looking forward to LB vs Madison. I think Madison has the defenders to slow down the potent LB offense but we will see what happens! Prediction: Madison 9 LB 8

Week of April 3 -2023 VA Boys 6A Rankings

1. Lake Braddock (5-0)

Last Week: Def. South Lakes 23-5, Def. West Potomac 13-2, Def. Chantilly 18-4

Analysis: With five wins in eight days, Lake Braddock takes over the top spot. The Bruins absolutely destroyed South Lakes, West Potomac and Chantilly by a combined 54-11. Tough week ahead with back-to-back games against Madison and Oakton. Lake Braddock needs to win both to hold on to the top spot, and could slip to second even with two wins if they can’t overpower Madison like Yorkton did.

Next Week: Madison (4/3), Oakton (4/4)

2. Yorktown (5-1)

Last Week: Def. Oakton 12-6, Def. Madison 8-1

Analysis: Solid win against Oakton, followed by a dominant win against #1 Madison, featuring tenacious defensive play and a patient offense that picked the Warhawks defense apart. The Patriots have a long Spring Break layoff followed by a string of easy games that should keep them near the top of the rankings for the rest of the season. Could arguably be in the top spot based on their scrimmage performance against Lake Braddock, but we can’t put too much weight on scrimmages and the Bruins narrowly edge Yorktown out for now.

Next Week: No games

3. Battlefield (2-1)

Last Week: Def. Woodson 13-0

Analysis: Easy win against a Woodson team that seems down this season. Quiet start to the season for the Bobcats with only three games so far and an eleven day layoff coming up. They come off their hiatus with two tough games, facing Lake Braddock and Freedom on consecutive days. We will we find out then if Battlefield is a legitimate contender.

Next Week: No games

4. Madison (3-1)

Last Week: Lost to Yorktown 8-1, Def. West Potomac 9-2

Analysis: We don’t know who that was at the Yorktown game, but it didn’t look like Madison. Other than faceoffs, Yorktown dominated every aspect of the game. Bounce back win against West Potomac was much needed, although Madison did not look particularly sharp. No rest for the defending champs as they square off with the new #1 team in the state next week and then a feisty South County squad.

Next Week: Lake Braddock (4/3), South County (4/4)

5. Robinson (4-2)

Last Week: Def. Alexandria City 11-3, Def. Woodson 18-1, Langley 11-7

Analysis: Three good wins for the Rams keeps them in the conversation as a legitimate title contender. Athletic defense and unselfish offense. They crushed AC and Woodson, and beat a decent looking Langley team for their third win in four days. They face a tough Oakton team on Monday before a long 15-day layoff.

Next Week: Oakton (4/3)

6. Langley (3-1)

Last Week: Def. Patriot 12-9, Lost to Robinson 11-7

Analysis: Solid win over Patriot, jumping out to a quick 6-1 lead and never giving up control. Lost a tough one to Robinson but looked to be able to hang with them for most of the game. Tough call between Langley and Freedom at the #6 spot, but with Patriot being the only common opponent between the two, Langley edges Freedom because they played Patriot better.

Next Week: No games

7. Freedom South Riding (5-2)

Last Week: Lost to Cheyenne Mountain 15-7, Def. Forest Park 16-4, Def. Independence 18-6

Analysis: Freedom laid an egg against Cheyenne Mountain, but recovered with easy wins against Forest Park and Independence. Still looking like the second best team in their region, with Patriot and John Champe not far behind. Long layoff for the Eagles, but they face Battlefield when they return in a fight for Region B supremacy.

Next Week: No games

8. Oakton (2-2)

Last Week: Lost to Yorktown 12-6, Def. South County 9-7

Analysis: The six-goal loss to Yorktown didn’t look great at first, but after seeing the Patriots crush Madison the loss doesn’t look as bad. The Cougars bounced back with a close win against a scrappy South County team. Huge week ahead with back-to-back games against Robinson and Lake Braddock.

Next Week: Robinson (4/3), Lake Braddock (4/4)

9. Westfield (3-1)

Last Week: Def. South County 8-6

Analysis: Westfield’s offense isn’t going to blow anyone away, but their stingy defense and goaltending is keeping them in the winning column. Thirteen day layoff ahead. When they return, they have a tough stretch against Centreville, McLean, Battlefield, and Oakton in a seven-day period and will have to fight hard to stay in the rankings.

Next Week: No games

10. McLean (5-0)

Last Week: Def. Centreville 10-9 OT, Def. Herndon 9-8 OT, Def. Frontier Central 17-7

Analysis: McLean won two close games against average opponents in overtime, then beat an unknown New York team in convincing fashion. Patriot could very well beat McLean if they played head-to-head, but with a 5-0 start to the season McLean regains a spot in the top 10 for now. Two winnable games next week could get them to 7-0 before a challenging week with games against Langley, Westfield, and Lake Braddock.

Next Week: Trinity Mountain View (4/3), West Springfield (4/5)

Honorable Mention: Patriot, John Champe, Cosby

Bad editing on the LB post on our part, should say three wins in five days, not five wins in eight days.

Love love love reading the analysis and spot on !!

Love the rankings and analysis as well. Great work and appreciate the time and dedication to you sir. Crazy prediction: I think after a few weeks Lake Braddock ends up being ranked #4 or #5 after losing to Madison and Battlefield.

Yes, correct, crazy is right.

I've watched most of these teams live now. Madison is strong, for sure. I also realize this is a very pro Madison crowd/rankings.

I think LB wins going away tonight. Warhawks are just too sloppy. I think they can get better and will be better in May but at this point LB is head and shoulders above the rest of the area.

Oakton may keep it close due to a post Warhawk "letdown". Bruins are dominant and this season will likely come down to Yorktown/LB.

Assume JWR is still seething about being bumped last year after being undefeated and having a better team than the Bruins so that will certainly be an interesting game.

I hope the teams stay healthy. Will be fun.
