The written APE statement is far from controversial. I'm not sure why you have your panties in such a bunch.

Yes to all of this and I see the goal has been exceeded. I hope the family can use some to take time off and not worry about bills. Remember not all families are in positions with salary/paid family leave. This is their child who just passed. The loss and pain are unimaginable.
