Riemer had plenty of tweets attacking Blair directly, too. He’s too rich, he’s a former republican, he doesn’t know the right buzz words, etc. And then there were Riemer’s repeated misleading claims that he was competitive. If he actually believed he was competitive, then we should re-examine every other claim and start over on any piece of legislation he advocated, because it would indicate an alarming lack of judgment on Riemer’s part. There’s no question Riemer helped Elrich. I hope everyone who voted for Riemer remembers that for the next four to eight years of Elrich, who they seem to universally loathe.

Not that poster, but I'm running a spreadsheet of daily votes. Elrich's percentages stay pretty consistent, while Riemer's increases and Blair's decreases.

Same. I was going to vote for Reimer until I found out what was happening then switch to Elrich.

Those of us who appreciate how he handled COVID. And possibly those of us who are concerned that Blair might not have our best interests at heart.

One question that I asked myself was: Based on what I know about Blair, do I wish he had been in charge during a pandemic, facing a new disease, with a president who is a batshit crazy criminal? I feel very lucky to have had Hogan and Elrich. Although I didn’t always agree with them, I felt that they each took the well-being of all of us very seriously. In the next four years, we could have a governor with limited political experience and an unknown president—including some unpalatable (to me, at least) possible options. In a crisis, I’d prefer the known entity that is Elrich vs Businessman Blair between me and uncertainties and chaos.

This is my concern about Moore too- no real government experience. And he’ll be running the state!!!!

Those of you voting for the status quo with Elrich don't understand the status quo. He's done a terrible job running the government and his employees are extremely unhappy. His budgets have been deeply irresponsible and the spineless Council just rubberstamps them because all they care about is placating progressive Twitter. I get that Blair is an unknown and I kind of hate that he uses a private jet, but Elrich is pretty bad. And as far as COVID policy goes, if you are someone who can work from home in a white collar job and has no kids, I'm sure it has been pretty great. But for people running small businesses or raising young children, it really hasn't been.

Same. County employees are terrified of his winning reelection. It's like a gut punch.

His budget fiascos (which, granted, the Council rubber stamped this year because it was an election year) have largely gone unnoticed by the public. But the house of cards he has built will come crumbling down in a 2nd term. I guarantee an FY24 savings plan that cuts services, because he built so much of this year's budget on one-time federal funding.

Unfortunately most people are pretty ignorant about the stuff you describe. But yes, as a working parent with young kids, I felt like someone in the Elrich admin was out to make our lives miserable. That was enough for me.

Yeah most Riemer voters I know still though Blair had only recently switched from being a republican. There was an interesting debate on a listserv I’m on arguing whether Riemer or Elric had the better approach to “help people” and the consensus seemed to be that they both cared and just had different approaches, while Blair of course couldn’t possibly care about anyone but himself. So I’m not quite sure how those Riemer votes would have reallocated.

I don’t know why Blair (and Riemer, for that matter) didn’t highlight the budget fiasco more. What Elrich and the council have done is incredibly negligent and will have lasting impacts on this county. I can’t tell how n my any dem voters are ignorant of this or simply don’t care.

They're both terrible and as with most politics, you don't vote for someone you vote against the other person. Who wants to go into any government anymore? It's underpaid (only the rich can afford to run) and every little thing you do is scrutinized to death.
