Among the items police found in the suspect’s apartment were several firearms, including long guns, multiple rounds of ammunition and handguns. He also confirmed the presence of a tripod.

“This was a sniper-type setup,” Contee said, adding that police believe there are other suspects.

You now, I often criticize our MPD, but it seems to me they did reasonably ok here. They encircled this guy's location, evacuated apartments in the building, kept tightening the snare until they were at his door, and then he killed himself.

They also kept a bunch of scared kids safe in a secure location and then reunited those kids with their equally scared parents. I saw videos of police officers riding with kids and hold ing their hands.

As far as these things go, this seems to have been a good operation.

Why is the prospect of having nothing BUT super-accurate guns out there something worthy of laughter? Sniper guns (aka “hunting rifles”) can accurately shoot 3/4 of a mile away. That’s something you want more of out there? Please explain.

Your platitudes have gotten us into this mess. Violent offenders need prison. Focus on making the prisons more effective, not keeping criminals on the streets.

We have more people in prison then the rest of the developed world and still more gun violence. Your arg doesn’t work. The problem is not that we don’t put enough people in prison. We need a different solution.

They said "violent" offenders. You shouldn't be in disagreement. Our jailing problem has to do with non-violemt offenders.

I work in an inpatient psych facility. We “treat” our patients, discharge them, and readmit many of them a few months/a year later. They don’t stay on their meds and end up right back where they started. We have a very high forensic population (committed crimes, awaiting trial, etc) so plenty of violent patients. Getting them treatment isn’t always the answer. Many times they do belong in jail.

agree. I treat trauma victims. Often their abusers are beyond repair, and if ongoing trauma for too long and us identified so are the victims. As for truly deranged and drug addicts committing crimes, it never ends.
