At least the cloth ones are more comfortable and don't cause acne as much. The Kindergartner we want the mask to stay off and i think the early childhood teachers recognize the importance of this.

That’s actually not true with this new BA.2 variant. Prior covid infection does not prevent it. But whatever

In two weeks? Please provide a link otherwise this is covid misinformation.

From the journal Nature:

Had Omicron? You're unlikely to catch its rising variant.

Infection with the first widely circulating version of Omicron protects against the emerging BA.2 subvariant — as does vaccination.

A literal empty gesture but I get it. Sometimes it’s the only way to deal with insane people.

Teacher report. Nearly all staff in masks today and I would say 80-85% of kids masked. This is upper NW

Wow. That is sad. I don't think that's the situation at our Upper NW school, at least not for the kids. Didn't see enough teachers this morning, but some were still masking outside.

I predict they slowly come off. My kids are just waiting for another mask free face.

I would expect teachers to stay masked longer than the kids. For kids, I bet usage will fall a lot over a week or two.

What I am hoping is that teachers will not enforce mask usage even if requested by the parents, so that kids can make their own choice.

My husband did drop off at our Ward 1 DCPS, but said around 50% of kids were unmasked. Didn’t mention staff. Kindergartener said she didn’t want to wear one even if she wear the only kid in her class, though one of her class BFFs also said they were going to take off their mask today. I’m sure I’ll get a full report this afternoon.

Our DCPS put out a very tactfully worded statement in the newsletter saying just that (we encourage you to discuss with your child and we’ll respect each child’s choice at school). I think that’s right, the teachers cannot be responsible for enforcing a parenting choice when it’s not backed by school policy anymore.

So teachers should go against parent wishes? That seems like a set up

How is that a setup? How are the parents even going to know whether the teacher intervenes if Larla decides to take off her mask?

Ward 4 DCPS Elementary school- about the same with about 50% of kids masked going in. Staff was a bit higher at around 75%.

I mean how are they going to keep track? While also teaching?

Just that teachers can't be expected to remember every moment which kids are supposed to wear masks and which aren't. So if a kid takes off their mask, then a teacher isn't carrying around a list that says "oh little Larla needs to wear a mask", which she checks and then goes and bugs little Larla but not little Larlo who is sitting right next to Larla.
