What makes you think God cares?

Hard to imagine that a loving god would give good lives to a particular believer and non-believer, while giving such awful lives to whole countries of believers who experience war, famine, flood or fire.

It seems totally random and maybe it is. Maybe believers feel better, though, because they feel protected and have someone to pray to, and belong to a community of good, like-minded people, and believe that their life will continue forever in heaven, with the god they have been praying to and worshipping.

Why are you so concerned about what other people think?

don't worry about, because he's "supernatural" i.e., he exists only in your imagination.

Supernatural doesn’t mean something exists only in a person’s imagination. It means it exists beyond the natural world.

I other words, only in your imagination

No, your understanding is limited on this matter.

In other words, only in your imagination -- and, in religion, taught to people for them to believe in under threat of internal punishment. Other supernatural beings, like fairies, often believed in by children, inflict no punishment on non-believers and adults are not expected to believe in them.

The assertion that the natural world is all there is is a metaphysical and philosophical claim in itself—a claim which you are attempting to proseletyze and impose on believers of other religions with an evangelical fervor. You’re really projecting the whole “religious people forcing other people to believe” something and its quite imperialistic. Then again, self-awareness only exists in the imagination too I suppose.

Calm yourself. The above info on supernatural beings is simply factual. Nothing is imposed, proselytized, forced or imperialistic.

Oh well it must be “merely factual”, because you said so!! Yes massah, whatever you say boss.

Not because anyone said so; because what is natural can be studied scientifically, while what is supernatural can only be believed.

Scientific study is merely observation of phenomenon; it cannot explain “Why” a thing happens outside of human conjecture. At least religious people are honest about what they believe, you seem to be unaware that a belief in nothing is still a belief.

pp seems unaware that non-believers in religion simply reject the claims of supernaturalism espoused by religions.

It’s one thing to reject a belief, but it comes across that you also want to impose your belief on the people who believe in a religion different than yours. People believe God cares about them—why are so many people in this thread hellbent on telling them that he doesn’t? That is literally proselytizing. Or they keep asking why, why, why—why do you care what other people believe at all, and why do they need to prove anything to you when you already have an established belief?

I don’t give a damn what you believe

You care so very much about other’s beliefs it’s painful to witness.

Obviously it’s very important for your ego that I care what you believe. But I don’t.

You have it backwards. You’re the ones who care what others believe because you’re always trying to convince us to become Christians. That’s what brought on the Key ‘73 Fiasco for those of us old enough to remember that horrendous experience. Christians, even those who planned and instituted it, never even mention it anymore.

No one in this thread has called an atheist stupid or evil for not believing in God, yet the reverse has happened multiple times. You’re really using some obscure event from 50 years ago that nobody under 70 has ever heard of to justify being so bothered by people minding their own business in a thread about a God you don’t believe in? Do you not see how that’s a little crazy? Like PP said, the obsession is real!

Just because it happened 70 years ago doesn't make it crazy. The Bible was written much longer ago - by centuries - before scientific understanding -- and some people still take it seriously today, and berate people who don't.

Uh, 1973 was not 70 years ago. I’m many years short of 70 years old and I remember the Key ‘73 disaster very well. It’s what got me into martial arts.

Well I’m sorry that you feel like people in your personal life have berated for you for not believing in the Bible. That doesn’t mean God doesn’t care, and certainly not for the people who believe in him. In fact, it’s such a not sequitur that I still don’t understand what point anyone is trying to make at this point.

DP here. Here's a question you won't answer:

If a god does not exist, is it "stupid" to believe in one?

Don't answer with "but he does", answer the question as it is posed.
