Hard to imagine that a loving god would give good lives to a particular believer and non-believer, while giving such awful lives to whole countries of believers who experience war, famine, flood or fire.

Maybe believers feel better, though, because they feel protected and have someone to pray to, and belong to a community of good, like-minded people, and believe that their life will continue forever in heaven, with the god they have been praying to and worshipping.[/quote]

Uh, 1973 was not 70 years ago. I’m many years short of 70 years old and I remember the Key ‘73 disaster very well. It’s what got me into martial arts.

You have it backwards. You’re the ones who care what others believe because you’re always trying to convince us to become Christians. That’s what brought on the Key ‘73 Fiasco for those of us old enough to remember that horrendous experience.  Christians, even those who planned and instituted it, never even mention it anymore. No one in this thread has called an atheist stupid or evil for not believing in God, yet the reverse has happened multiple times. You’re really [b]using some obscure event from 50 years ago that nobody under 70 has ever heard of[/b] to justify being so bothered by people minding their own business in a thread about a God you don’t believe in? Just because it happened 70 years ago doesn't make it crazy.  The Bible was written much longer ago - by centuries - before scientific understanding --  and some people still take it seriously today, and berate people who don't.
