Seeing 15-20% price increases at my favorite restaurants , not tipping will just carry out

I think most of this thread is 2-3 angry little men, pink in hue, who have little happiness in life other than shitposting on the internet. Here, they are big and brash and have the power to anger people with their hot takes, with no consequence. IRL they are ineffectual nothings. They’re Ross Perot voters. They buy their jeans at Walmart.

If you don’t tip service people well, you are either too poor to be dining out or you’re just an embarrassment to yourself. And surely to your families as well.

I tip a lot because I’m rich, and I know how hard that work is and how much that money means to the people doing it. Pretty much everyone I know does the same. I can’t imagine being friends with someone who “doesn’t tip for takeout”. So low class.

We shouldn't artificially subsidize the market correction, this is the new norm , if this was the original temporary 2 weeks or one year pause but it's not, it's a permanent change. Restaurant industry needs to reinvent itself , something that is takeout or delivery based on volume, high quality and affordable is what consumers want.

Just because you're too poor or cheap doesn't mean an entire industry needs to reinvent itself to cater to you.

Please stop the tired trope of people being “too poor and/cheap” if they don’t tip for takeout or over 20% for dine in. It has nothing to do with being poor or cheap.

No, it does. I understand they don’t like to think of themselves that way, but that is indeed what they are.

They should make a place where they don't allow tips I d go

If the food tastes good why reward the baggage handler

Wow there are really a lot of cheap republicans here.

I don't tip when the employee is making $15/hr. Several restaurants in Montgomery County are now paying their staff at least minimum wage. Not to mention, most servers are young and definitely not supporting a family.
I also don't tip for takeout when the staff is making $15/hr.
Just like I don't tip the cashier at Trader Joe's for ringing me up, bagging my order and doing all the other jobs assigned to them to get the food onto the shelves.

But we honestly cannot afford it. We used to go out to eat once a week as a treat, but now we do other things instead, or splurge on expensive food to cook at home. We can make steak from our favorite butcher and a few sides and chocolate cake for a quarter what we'd pay at a restaurant that will likely be understaffed. It's worth the effort.

Same here. It really drove home how much cheaper it is to cook a good meal at home even with high quality ingredients. I miss dining out but it's so pricey for what you get these days.

I won't tell you my HHI. The simple reality is that the cost of living has gone up noticeably. It's not just restaurants. It's buying groceries too. And gas. And everything else. My income isn't keeping up with inflation. We have to cut expenditures and one of it is cutting back on dining out. We have also shifted to getting takeaways from places that specialize mainly takeaway with limited dining in so we minimize our tips too. It all adds up.

I have never said I can’t afford it. I sure can but I don’t want to and I am not doing it. Your nasty posts have not done anything to change my mind. If anything it confirms I was right.

I suspect you're just an anonymous internet poster pretending to be rich while scolding and shaming others.

HHI of about 70K for family of 4 and we tip when we carry out... because we do it so rarely. Usually it's cooking from scratch in this house!

Yes, agree. We used to get takeout a few times a month, but now our takeout is a rotisserie chicken. The MC is priced out.

The restaurant is free to institute service charges or minimum tops. Until then, you don't need to tip.

Jesus, you are dumb.

You’re also free to never brush your teeth. And to pass gas in the middle of a work meeting. And to walk in to pick up your takeout with your fat hairy gut hanging out the bottom of your “Big Johnson” t shirt.

No one is arguing that you “must” tip in the sense of a legal obligation. But if you don’t you are gross and low class.

Funny how it's not a legal requirement. The PP is strictly correct.

The expectation is to tip but it still is an awful way of structuring it. We should get away with tips completely and just have minimum wage for restaurant workers. But as a few PP pointed out, some places already mandate this, and people are still expected to tip
