Lack of diversity in lacrosse

How many African American players are there on the UVA and VT women lacrosse roster? That will tell you the diversity in lacrosse.

Saying slurs and singing the words to a song are very different.

You clearly don't live in Texas.

DD is AA and is a recruited athlete in lacrosse. She visited the following schools: UVA, VT, WM, and UNC Chapel Hill. Her impressions after the visit:

- UVA: I didn't see any AA players on the roster
- VT: I saw one or may be two on the roster,
- WM: I saw one on the roster,
- UNC: I saw one on the roster,

As someone who was born to a Vietnamese mother and AA soldier during the Vietnam war, I was raised in Vietnam until I was 18 years old when I arrived to the US. Growing up, I was discriminated by Vietnamese people because of my skin color, and it was very blatant in Vietnam. I was treated like 3rd class citizen in Vietnam while kids who were born by Vietnamese mother and white American soldier were treated like royalties. Things are a bit better here in the US but unless you're in that situation, you will never understand.

People just don't want to admit that there isn't any diversity in women lacrosse. Just look at the roster of the schools listed above. My DD said to me many times that she felt out of place.

No that’s not a good song for young girls to be singing. It’s funny butt not appropriate.

The artists name is Lil Dicky and he is talking about sexual stereotypes and saying the nword. Hope there were no Blacks around.

The coach of that team is also no longer at the school. I am sure this did not help in recruiting. He seemed to be more concerned about social media than the content of the post. Had a teammate not posted it he would never have thought twice about it.

^^ That Coach was Asian, and he had two women on his staff. This is absolutely ridiculous. No one is keeping any one out of the sport. I guarantee you that if there were quality players for BI, Visi, SR or SSSAS to put on the field their coaches would do it regardless of skin color or religion. They just want to win. Those schools' teams make up the bulk of Capital, Pride and MCE which is where D1 schools look for kids. There are no racial, religious or income quotas. Again, its just about fielding the best team. No other agendas at all.

What could those girls and that coach possibly have been thinking, and especially the one who posted it to social media? Who cares if the word was only a lyric to a song and who cares that they were excited that they had just won a lacrosse game. How could anybody on this planet in the year 2022 be so dumb to think that it is ok to sing that word and then to post it on social media. What did they think was going to happen? I will not judge whether they are racists or not, but if I were VTech I would kick out every girl on that team for being unbelievably dumb.
And by the way, why in the world do artists (black or white) and record labels think it is ok to publish music with that word? Either it is horrifically taboo or it is not. In case you have been living under a rock, our society has decided that it is.

And then they came for the artists. Once societies and governments start dictating what is and isnt art or acceptable art, that community is toast.

I know. Maybe tryout. Maybe walk-on? Maybe work on your skills to be good enough for SkyWalkers Blue, Capital Blue or M&D Black. NO ONE CARES WHAT COLOR THE KIDS ARE! They care about skills and talent. We have enough trouble protecting Title 9 but now we think imposing quotas for race, etc are gonna help teams somehow?

Exactly right.

Nothing is stopping any kid from trying to be the best lax player they can be. It takes dedication from the kid the parents and finances that can pay for travel, coaching, etc.

Another issue why lacrosse hasn't taken off, there's no pot of money at the end of the rainbow, unlike football, baseball and basketball.

lacrosse is essentially a tool to get you into highly competitive universities.
