Any New England school gets hate from the southerners - most of whom have never been to the northeast, save their husband maybe (MAYBE) bringing them to big, bad, scary NYC.

LOL.

LOL!

You think DC UMC people arguing about prestige of top 20 college have never been to the northeast? Where in the world did you get that idea?

I lived in Boston for 20 years and they don’t care about schools down here either. Georgetown? Pft.

Too busy at hallowed halls of Northeastern.

I would rather be busy at Northeastern for CS or engineering over Georgetown, but Georgetown for business or foreign service over any other school maybe besides MIT Harvard and Princeton

DP

I have a lot of relatives who are lifelong NC residents. Their opinion of Elon is that it caters to UMC/affluent whites who skew conservative.

Its a great school. It gets maligned because it's a state school that most state kids have no shot at... that pisses off alot of people. Good thing is that VA has a smorgasbord of other very good state schools (W&M and Tech in particular) but JMU, GMU etc as well.

People hate that it's so hard to get in.... and if you do get in, a great deal for a top public at a super price.

Now some people can say, oh it's too preppy, or oh i don't like their stupid traditions etc, but those are just shallow preferences. If your kid likes it, go for it.

If your kids likes it, go for it. Agree! UVA is a target of hate because supporters say every NoVa students wishes they could attend. It's obnoxious.

The schools that receive the most hate from insecure trolls are the ones in which people note how happy their kids are there. There’s a certain type of DCUM poster who feels they have to belittle any school which is popular and known for having happy students.

Probably UChicago. Good school, bad neighborhood. Plus expensive & cold and snowy most of the school year.

Because they weren’t accepted? UVA can’t accept every kid in Virginia.

Jealousy.

I just read an article about a girl at Langley High with a perfect ACT score and straight As. UVA is her first choice.

This!

It just means her parents are too poor to send her somewhere else.
