NYU for no reason If people really knew what they were talking about they would not be trashing all of these good schools. Maybe their kid can't get in |
NYU just gets wayyyy overhyped, though. And it's as close to a scam as you can get in higher ed (at least within the top tier). |
Very true |
Not going to wade into overhype, though I find the scam thing to be incredibly troubling. Preys on working and middle class kids who want to escape their hometowns, but would be much better served attending their state school or parlaying what are good grades into merit scholarships at less "prestigious" institutions. There for the grace of god could have been me. I picked a LAC that offered me money. Also had loans. Not overly onerous, but did make a dent in ability to save. For grad school, passed on Columbia b/c of COL (even though I was living in NYC at the time, just knew living there as a student would end up being too costly) and attended a comparable school in a slightly less expensive city (able to share an apartment and live close enough to school so transport costs were minimal). |
https://www.parchment.com/c/college/tools/college-cross-admit-comparison.php?compare=Cornell+University&with=Vanderbilt+University 62% of students pick Cornell, only 38% for Vanderbilt. |
Parchment is not reliable, but 60/40 sounds about right. |
After seeing multiple threads today, looks like GW should be included on the most hated. |
I don’t think it’s hated….people don’t really give it much thought. |
All you Virginians who take your highly regarded flagship school for granted make me ill. New Yorkers would kill to have a public university like it, and we pay tons more in taxes than you. So shut the f up about it and be grateful for once in your entitled, pathetic lives. |
I think this is more about the fact that most Northeast college students prefer to stay in the Northeast, closer to home. And a huge number of college students are from the Northeast. |
Both of major NYC schools, Columbia and NYU, are wayyy overhyped because of their location. Both are fine schools; one or the other has a good USNWR rating year now and then, which encourages their respective boosters but doesn’t seem to change admitted students’ minds. |
Right thinking individuals. |
I guess. But hard to imagine visiting both in February and choosing Cornell. |
Experience. |
You’re confused. Harvard is the Vandy of the North. Duke is a remote campus of Rutgers. |
