Nope. It's scary and there really aren't any good answers for you. I prefer to approach that block from the west if I have to walk along it, rather than from North Capitol.

+1. Use 1st St NW to get to school. If you are still uncomfortable you can ask to transfer to Calle 8 next year.

Don't listen to the people saying to not be excited, they are just mad that you didn't choose their school.

really? have you read this thread? with all the former MV parents outlining very real problems? This is coming from people on the outside. I live in this neighborhood, know went in with a lot of excitement, and then were so disappointed, and who have all since moved (mostly to better DCPS schools). they are much more upset about MV than anyone on the outside.

PP, there was a shooting on the first day of school at that location last year. Your fears are not paranoia:

https://georgetowner.com/articles/2022/08/29/crime-report-14/

People are telling PP not to be excited because of the school, however, PP is worried about the neighborhood, not the school. She already chose MV. She can transfer to Calle 8 next year.

People who leave MV go private (WIS) or move, they don't go back to their IB Title 1 school.

We moved from MV P St to our IB Title 1. Not sure why you would think this.

Will you send your kids to the feeder middle school?

DP, but wouldn’t send them to DCI either, so it’s a moot point. Will move to Deal or MCPS for middle school, depending on what will be best fit when we get there.

NP. I think this is an important point. DCI and the possibility of a path to MS and HS was a big reason a lot of parents put up with some of the challenges. When MS and HS was no longer guaranteed that took some of the shine off MV. Now the early returns for DCI are in and parents who somehow just knew it was better than SH or other options are rethinking things.

You don't have to a be a troll to ask valid questions and express valid concerns. MV is not a bad school and it has a place in DC. But the kneejerk reactions from so many of you to demonize anyone who dare express concerns or reservations is the path on a road to irrelevance. Go ahead and ask Two Rivers how "ignore problems and they'll go away" is working out.

LOL! Deal is a hot mess. People in Deal IB are sending their kids to DCI.

Expect to move

That's not a real trend. You sound delusional.

+100. Not so great, I understand. Enrollment has declined so there’s only 1 5th grade class and 1 7th grade class.

Ayyyy. It seems like there are several TR 5th graders at ITS.

So. My son was part of the original rising class over at calle oche. He's got ADHD and is on the spectrum and no other school could handle him. When we got into Mundo Verde it was like a dream come true. The pandemic hit and Mundo Verde has never recovered. They could not provide for my son. He's been at a special education school for two years and part of me has not wanted him back at Mundo Verde since. It was always that seat at DCI since our in boundary school is not good. Turns out we don't need the seat anymore. So unless something dramatic happens this year we won't be returning. But he's still learning his Spanish on dualingo

I am Sorry, but according to what you wrote it does not look like the issue is specific to MV.

You are delusional. Deal families don’t have access to DCI but the few families who do are choosing DCI. Look at the dates where kids come from.

Sorry, what now? What do you mean "Deal families don't have access to DCI"? Every family in DC has equal access through the lottery. Your circular logic is that since there aren't many it is only because they don't have access? But then you pivot and conclude that the ones who do choose DCI feeders and DCI are choosing DCI (?) which is proof of demand?

you are not!

Former MV family here, we pulled DS out of PK3 and did not choose to return to K. I had seen all i needed to see. Academics were none existent. Parents had to protest for their children to learn. I heard from families in DS's PK cohort that their older MV children were not able to read well in either language.

nah. Anyone's IB would be better.

You pulled your kid after prek3 because of the academics? What are the academic standards you think your child is missing out on?

Oh come on. People make PK3 decisions based on the quality of the upper grade academics all the time.

i am this commenter, we pulled DS out of the preschool because of what I saw and heard from families in the upper grades. Why stay through K and beyond if my kid was not going to learn to read well in either language?

She is obviously a troll. She pulled the kid Out of pk3 and decided not to go back to K? That makes no sense.

I assumed she pulled her kid after pk3 due to covid lockdowns and never went back but I’m just spitballing here

not a troll at all! a very real person who was very much not happy with the quality of education at MV. it was spanish daycare. you want that? ok you go send your kid then.
