| MV lost me when they said these kids who are fully vaccinated would still have to quarantine. |
Immersion DCPS parent here (that turned down MV offers for our DCPS) and I think it's nuanced. IMO, some DCPS schools that have OOB spots are better than almost every charter you listed (including the DCI feeders with the exception of Yu Ying and one or two others). Some DCPS are mostly comparable and it makes sense to do a neighborhood charter over your IB (or neighborhood OOB), but not to drive out of your neighborhood for a charter. Some DCPS are worse than most of the charters you listed and make sense to choose even with a school commute. But I agree that MV has very serious safety and stability issues that I don't think exist in any Wards 4 or 5 DCPS schools. |
| If anyone is deciding whether to ignore this thread as DCUM exaggeration and put MV on the lottery anyways, the answer is no. Don’t be swayed by their marketing campaigns during open house season. It’s not a safe environment for children and going through multiple teachers in a year is terrible for learning and even worse for kids’ well being. |
| This sounds like something Netflix is going to recommend I watch later. Can someone give a quick recap of the past season? |
| ALL schools have had teacher turnover! There isn't a county or school system that hasn't been impacted. It's been a terrible year for everyone: kids, teachers, admin, etc. |
| I am simply heartbroken. What have we done to our kids by choosing to live in this awful city? |
Ma'am, this is Wendy's... |
Check your privilege. |
| We have two kids at Calle ocho and just love it. Yes there has been staff turnover, but that is normal and frankly the stats we have seen show it is less than at other charters. The replacements have been loving and great teachers! I think the main issue frankly is the insane parents. They freak out about literally everything. This year they created these what’s app groups which has caused every little incident to become an international sensation. If the parents would just chill out then everything would be fine. Kids are doing great, have nice friends and learning a ton. I can’t imagine leaving. They try their best. We were at our local in bounds dcps school prior to Mundo and we had to pull our kid out of there. Mundo is night and day better. |
Thr If your kid is at mv8 they are at eldest... 8. Ece isn't reality. |
Pobrecito…I used to think that too with my new HRCS when they were 3-4 years young and I had a 1st grader. Then every year it was something new and I would hear rumblings about issues with the grades 2 above us, then one above us, and then we hit 4th grade and ish got real and then 5th came and I deeply regretted not taking lottery spots at Deal feeders and Basis for 5th grade. Don’t worry, it will soon be your turn to be like us and give warning signs to those pregnant with their first kid now getting ready to move from their Downtown condo to Brookland for a yard. MV is an ish storm. Sure it’s good compared to $1600 daycare. Wait until 3rd grade. |
Yeah… we haven’t had any teacher turnover that I’ve heard of at our school. Look at the statistics, the retention rate at Mundo is far beyond what’s normal, even post pandemic. Assuming you’re not in the first and second grade classrooms that are having major bullying and violent episodes in class either. Enjoy ECE. |
NP edit: 3050 daycare. You must be an old. |
I dunno. We send our kids to our Ward 5 IB and there hasn't been any teacher turnover. There are plenty of problems in this city, but I'm not sure Murial is directly responsible for MV's implosion. |
