PP, Don't believe everything that you read on DCUM. Here you can see where kids go to school. As you can see a lot of people, like yourself, choose MV.

That's not what people are saying. Yes, hundreds of kids attend MV. No doubt about that. But, unlike in the past, MV P does not have much of a waitlist for K and up. It used to have a very long waitlist and now it doesn't. That's partially because of opening a new campus and the loss of guaranteed access to DCI, but it's also because of the fall in quality and the major issues that had a small group of parents literally protesting in the street outside. What once was a highly desirable school is now more of a niche thing for people who are willing to tolerate the issues.

More of a reflection of changing demographics throghout the city than anything else. Real city folk are not intimated by MV, and honestly are not valuing the same things most of you on here whinning clearly value. A protest?? LOL please go private and move out the city while you're at it. Nothing is good enough for some parents, you know who you are Karen

Dude I don't even go there. They were protesting for reading and math instruction daily, is there something wrong with wanting that?

Dude the fact that you don’t even go there means that you don’t know what you are talking about.

No, it is because the school crushed itself. Even back when it was new and good with one of the longest waitlists there were crazies who protested; it is a hazard of the group it attracts naturally.

you are not!

Former MV family here, we pulled DS out of PK3 and did not choose to return to K. I had seen all i needed to see. Academics were none existent. Parents had to protest for their children to learn. I heard from families in DS's PK cohort that their older MV children were not able to read well in either language.

nah. Anyone's IB would be better.

You pulled your kid after prek3 because of the academics? What are the academic standards you think your child is missing out on?

Oh come on. People make PK3 decisions based on the quality of the upper grade academics all the time.

She is obviously a troll. She pulled the kid Out of pk3 and decided not to go back to K? That makes no sense.

I assumed she pulled her kid after pk3 due to covid lockdowns and never went back but I’m just spitballing here

Right. Current second graders did most of pre-K3, virtual pre-K4, then went back in person for K. Many parents didn't bother with virtual pre-K attendance requirements unless they wanted to hold their seats at a school they lotteried into. That's what PP did, and either unenrolled when school went virtual in 2020 or just didn't participate and enrolled somewhere else for pre-K4 or K.

How do you know that? Pp is most likely a troll.

Nope. It's scary and there really aren't any good answers for you. I prefer to approach that block from the west if I have to walk along it, rather than from North Capitol.

+1. Use 1st St NW to get to school. If you are still uncomfortable you can ask to transfer to Calle 8 next year.

Don't listen to the people saying to not be excited, they are just mad that you didn't choose their school.

really? have you read this thread? with all the former MV parents outlining very real problems? This is coming from people on the outside. I live in this neighborhood, know went in with a lot of excitement, and then were so disappointed, and who have all since moved (mostly to better DCPS schools). they are much more upset about MV than anyone on the outside.

PP, there was a shooting on the first day of school at that location last year. Your fears are not paranoia:

People are telling PP not to be excited because of the school, however, PP is worried about the neighborhood, not the school. She already chose MV. She can transfer to Calle 8 next year.

People who leave MV go private (WIS) or move, they don't go back to their IB Title 1 school.

We moved from MV P St to our IB Title 1. Not sure why you would think this.

Okay, that MAY be what PP did. I was giving a sensible explanation to the PP saying “that makes no sense.” It does when you account for COVID closures.

DP, but wouldn’t send them to DCI either, so it’s a moot point. Will move to Deal or MCPS for middle school, depending on what will be best fit when we get there.

Nope, but I also need my kids to learn how to read and write and do math before they get to middle school. Mundo is largely not teaching those skills at grade level.
