I make $160k as a fed, spouse in non-profit makes $90, so take out my income and it is very much in the same range as what OP talking about. I started 20+ years ago as a GS-7 making in the $30's. Now I'm a 15. If I had quit 20 years ago and decided not to work, we would be in OP's boat today, except I would not be expecting massive financial aid for a luxury good. I am not at all sad that my kids may go to state school (or may not, who knows? I just said that's my savings target). I went to public and had friends who came from both public and private. Both are fine. It's really about the individual kid and their journey, and what is right for them at a particular time. |
And not to mention that the examples given of one-income families getting food stamps or subsidized housing are primarily households headed by single parents. These programs were never designed for a working parent with a SAHM spouse either. |
|
I'm a SAHM with a husband making $80k a year and two kids. I left my job when we had our first child and he made $65k. It's fairly common outside DCUM/private school rich bubbles.
We've been lucky with private school financial aid and government assistance. I say it's worth applying! |
$80K for 4 people doesn't cut it in the DMV. Why not work? |
As long as the financial aid calculation is based on your income being 130-140k, I’m fine with it. I would not be fine with it based on a 80k income only. |
You don't get government assistance making $80K a year. This is a fake post except if you are lying about your income or not married and playing the system. |
It doesn't matter what you'd be fine with as its the schools decision, not yours. But, there is no way they are getting government assistance making $80K aa year. |
You're not getting TANF or SNAP on $80K/year with 2 kids, even in DC with it's very high income limits. Try again with your attempt to be inflammatory. |
No TANF or SNAP, but Medicaid with a premium for the kids and once they qualify for that they also qualify for WIC. Down payment assistance and other home buying loan programs that offer manageable interest rates also help. $80k is plenty manageable in this area for a family of 4 once you're aware of these programs. I encourage anyone who wants to have one parent stay home look into their options and apply for financial aid at private schools. |
I don't think they've ever said anything about imputed income or calculating ours at 130k-140k (not sure where you're getting that number, my salary was $40k/year before I left my job), but it could be buried in the TADS fine print somewhere. |
You know it's pretty shitty of you to abuse Medicaid in this way. It's not meant for be used as a tool for those capable of working to SAH. But you clearly know this and yes, there's a loophole in the system that allows it. I work in Medicaid and I'd say that 98% of our members with kids are single parents or dual income families making less than $80k. But way to go--putting your kids on the public dole so you don't have to work. Good job mom. |
+1. Good job on taking from the ones that really need it. I hope your kids won’t inherit your morals and principles |
You don't get medicaid on that income. Nor, would you also get WIC. WIC and medicaid are different programs. There are low income health insurance programs but they are not free or medicaid. Look up the medicaid requirements and the WIC. And, the home buyer programs often are expensive homes where someone making $80K cannot afford it. This is 100% fake. |
I spent many years working in these programs. The only way they are getting medicaid is if they aren't married and they are lying about living together/Dad (as if they apply they automatically file for child support). There is no way you get medicaid on $80K a year. In Virginia, the max for a family of 8 is under $60K. https://www.benefits.gov/benefit/1643 The same for Maryland: https://www.benefits.gov/benefit/1278 This is made up to get a reaction. And, here is the WIC: It maxes out at $45K for a family of 8. https://fns-prod.azureedge.net/sites/default/files/resource-files/WIC-Policy-Memo-2021-5-IEG.pdf#page=3 They might get MEAP - utility assistance as it maxes out at $78 for a family of 8. (But a family of 4 maxes out at $46K) https://www.benefits.gov/benefit/1559 |
*The only thing they might qualify for is a yearly eviction grant if they didn't pay their rent and got a court order eviction notice as that isn't income based. |
