I am not convinced either way on SROs... but how exactly would an SRO have prevented what happened today? Aren't they posted in the entrance, checking bags and whatnot? I really have no idea...
Maybe we need to use The Dads on Duty model: https://www.cbsnews.com/news/dads-louisiana-high-school-student-violence/ |
I defended my assertions- you clearly cannot. It's pretty hard to take someone seriously whose ammo is to call someone POS, or whatever just because they can't agree with another person. And you gotta give up calling anyone who disagrees with you a racist. It's getting old. Save that for someone who really is one. Bottom line, you need to grow up. |
Yes, but they can't be all white. They must be in equal representation that mirrors the school. Otherwise, the woke brigade will get upset and accuse the white dads of singling out POC students. If the people at these schools don't want an SRO, then they should go volunteer at the schools. |
|
Well, white people aren't the only ones who volunteer for things, so slow your hater roll. Looks like the tenth grade stabber was white so maybe you're onto something. Meh... not sure.
Seriously though... let's talk parent volunteers. Dads need to get involved!!!! |
| I'm still waiting for the person(s) who claimed that SROs are bad because the system is corrupt and so we must throw out the entire batch to tell us whether they would call the cops or not if someone was trying to stab their kid. Or would you call the Community Engagement Officer? |
I don't think anyone stated that the stabber was a POC. The POC topic came into the picture when someone stated that SROs are bad for POC students. But, yes, dads should get involved, but again, they have to be represented in equal number in terms of certain groups because otherwise, the woke brigade will get mad. |
Dasds on duty is such a beautiful idea. I doubt it would work here where career is more important than family to so many parents. I also suspect a whole herd of umc moms would drive them out of the school for one reason or another. |
In 2019-2020 we had SROs, and how many stabbings or attempted stabbings in MCPS? We're 2 months into this first school year without SROs, and we're up to 2 already. |
| I think those trained in dealing with criminal activities would handle stabbings and fights better than parent volunteers |
Of course they were white. Poc know they can go to jail. The real question is was it a girl. |
It would probably end up like PTA participation. The schools that need it the least have the most participation, and vice versa. I don't blame the parents -- the schools that need it the most tend to have families with lower incomes and those parents are working multiple jobs so they lack the time to get involved. |
| Then how is it working for Dads in Duty? They aren’t trained. They’re just parents walking the grounds reminding kids to get to class. Let’s focus on solutions. Not grievances. |
They are doing exactly what the therapist that MCPS was suppose to hire wound do. |
? you think no POC students have been violent at schools, brought a knife, or a gun with intent to hurt someone? Oh my. Jail doesn't seem to deter many people, including many POC, of committing crimes. So, even if "POC know they can go to jail", doesn't seem to be stopping them from committing crimes. |
