Hayfield Football Coach Fired

There is a dad claiming he didn't transfer his kids for athletic reasons. He had a son who played at freedom HS for Overton and another son who played at a different public PWC HS.
Last April, he tranferred both sons from their respective, different high schools and enrolled them both at Hayfield. What an odd thing to do!

Kind of makes you wonder if there weren't stunts being pulled at Freedom also.

I find it funny that Hayfield's principal was arguing that VHSL is not being "culturally responsive" when they mention group housing, while at the same time that same letter acknowledges that families were literally purchasing second apartments in the Hayfield district while maintaining a residency in PWC (and that's why a kid actually living there on any date could not be verified).

Who sends their sons to two different public high schools, then pulls them both out of their respective high schools in APRIL and transfers them to a completely different school system? Totally not making decisions based on academics thats for sure.

Someone who moved? I’m a PWC parent, and it’s not at all unusual for kids in the same family to go to different high schools here. I’d actually say that at least half the families I know do.
So if the family was living in pwc, then a parent got a job transfer to fairfax and they wanted to live closer to the new job, it makes perfect sense.

Huh? I grew up in PWC and that wasn't normal at all, except kids in IB.

If the $ suit goes forward, assume VHSL will subpoena the former Dir of Student Services and Security Officer and curious if what they said to FCPS will be same day in court when under oath.

.

Could be kids living with different parents depending on school want to go to/parent want to live with.

It doesn't make sense AT ALL to pull two high school students out of two different schools in April of the school year. A parent getting another job would just drive from PWC to the Hayfield area. You are being absurd.

How old are you?
It’s very common now, and at least for the last decade.

Maybe this parent didn’t want a long commute. How far do you commute to work each day?

I didn't realize the VHSL committees were made up of SCHOOL SUPERINTENDENTS. Wow. What a rebuke by her peers to Reid.

That's a short commute.
No one pulls their kids out of high school in April. You would have them finish out the school year, and then move. Unless, of course, all you cared about was following a certain football coach.

I want to know how much outside counsel fees FCPS has spent on this case so far. It looks like they used their outside law firm to write a 12 page letter signed by the principal, and the lawyers likely represented FCPS before the VHSL, and now this injunction.
Anonymous
The Times article cites 31 new transfer students, which is very close to the number the Times identified over the summer (33).
Anonymous
Yup., 31 transfers but FCPS only checked residency paperwork for 14. And of those 14, some of those checks were incomplete/inconclusive.

Head coach has said he was investigated 17 times when at Freedom- for recruiting and other reasons. There are articles online where coach says no one ever transferred to Freedom for football. He then would talk about the school’s unique Center for Environmental and Natural Sciences program. Bottom-line: this time, too many transfers who weren’t coached on what to say and not to say.

How can you say it's a short commute? You don't even know exactly where this hypothetical new job is. Why didn't you tell me how long your daily commute is?
Maybe it wasn't even about a job. Maybe they were renters and their lease was up and they needed to move in April. Maybe they had to move in to care for a sick family member. It could be many things that really are none of our business. I'm just saying that in Prince William county, it is very common for students to transfer to a high school they are not zoned for because they want to participate in a specialty program, and that leads to kids from one family being in different high schools very frequently. It's really no big deal.
