It was honestly just a matter of time before Europe started surpassing the US now that they are putting money and resources behind it.

I am afraid the days of just being superior athletes is probably over. Hope US Soccer has a plan or else the women become more like the men in world stature………

You really should listen to the Women's Game Podcast with Sam Mewis - latest episode she talks to a Canadian goalie and it's very clear the US is still far far ahead. Heck just listen to the color commentator on these highlights

Have you watched these last 3 friendlies? The WNT is very technically skilled.

LOL. Should sit this one out. The only technically skilled player on that team on a high level scale is Rose and she is like 47 years old.

Far far ahead and ties Costa Rica, a country that has fewer people than Pittsburgh. They split with Brazil, tied England and did have a decent showing against Netherlands.

Let’s see how they do against the euro giants. I just watched the Spain v Portugal game. And I thought they were a significantly better side than the US has been putting out. But that is just me.

Why do you think they brought Emma in? She is going to revamp the team into a European style side.

The US just beat these countries to win the olympic gold medal last year and are ranked #1 in the world. And they’ve only gotten better since then with many promising young players. This infatuation with pretty Spanish soccer is strange when it doesn’t result in the domination you think for men or women.

Seriously? do you not follow soccer at all? Spain is ranked #2 in the world in both men’s and women’s FIFA. The womens side is on something like an 10 game unbeaten streak, and not agasint Iceland and Ireland. And the #1 in men? Argentina, another pretty soccer style. Just admit that US womens simply had a huge head start. yes, they had a good run in the Olympics but very disappointing in the years prior including an embarrassing exit at last World Cup.

Cat and Girma are probably the only two superstars we have on the roster at this moment. And dont even start with Trin. My 12 year old has a better first touch. But she is fast, i will give her that.

We used to dominate now we are just another good team. The gap is closing.

The usual load of crap.

To put together a “national” team you need 16 or so very good players. Most soccer playing countries that in any way support women or girls playing can find that many.

The problem arises when you look beyond the national team. Could the 10th “best” women’s team in Spain right now even win a game in the SEC or Big10? Very doubtful.

What? You have no clue.

The rules UWSNT and College teams play under are completely different. This makes the game, tactics, and players completely different.

The question we should examine is Spain BY or SY. Also, I think they play 7v7 until the older youth age groups, fwiw.

Another question is Spain Academy or P2P?

After a while I get tired of these arguments. When Americans start to better understand soccer the level of play will increase. Until then we just have to wait for the short busses to catch up.

The rae worshiping 2nd string boys parents think if they group up enough ulittle leagues that MLSN will change from BY to SY.

Let me guess you have an average Q1 kid….

RAE is real. But its impact is overstated. At younger ages it accounts for about 10% change in distribution. By U15 it’s less than 6%.

Stop looking for excuses, and external “reasons.”

Your kid just needs to be motivated and do the work.

Not the person who’s been doing the back and forth just hopping in.

I have a December daughter who plays ECNL is middle of the pack for her team we scrimmage against the ECNL team age group below frequently. Rankings wise for the age group below they are the better team and made it to round of 16 at nationals we did not.

My daughter looks like a whole different kid playing against them compared to her own age group.

RAE obviously plays a role when we compare ECNL players or strong GA amongst themselves. The new age group line will make a difference in my opinion.
Will it make a Aug to December kid who don’t work hard move up no it will not.

Will it allow girls currently playing high level youth soccer to showcase better as players yes it will.

Tryouts are going to be crazy next spring because “most” ECNL teams will see at least 50% turnover if not more. In my opinion but we will see.

Going to be a mad house either way.

I think the turnover is healthy though. SY will invariably help overall participation and sticking with the sport. Even at the Mlsn level some kids want to play with their grade. I’m sure some parents of Mlsn academy teams will go ape sh!t over this comment bc the want little July-born Lionel to keep his contract.
