Anyone wants to see what technical women's soccer looks like, just watch Spain in the Euros. It was honestly just a matter of time before Europe started surpassing the US now that they are putting money and resources behind it. I am afraid the days of just being superior athletes is probably over. Hope US Soccer has a plan or else the women become more like the men in world stature………
You really should listen to the Women's Game Podcast with Sam Mewis - latest episode she talks to a Canadian goalie and it's very clear the US is still far far ahead. Heck just listen to the color commentator on these highlights https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2m9lkqd2xKc
Far far ahead and ties Costa Rica, a country that has fewer people than Pittsburgh. They split with Brazil, tied England and did have a decent showing against Netherlands. Let’s see how they do against the euro giants. I just watched the Spain v Portugal game. And I thought they were a significantly better side than the US has been putting out. But that is just me.
The US just beat these countries to win the olympic gold medal last year and are ranked #1 in the world. And they’ve only gotten better since then with many promising young players. This infatuation with pretty Spanish soccer is strange when it doesn’t result in the domination you think for men or women.
Seriously? do you not follow soccer at all? Spain is ranked #2 in the world in both men’s and women’s FIFA. The womens side is on something like an 10 game unbeaten streak, and not agasint Iceland and Ireland. And the #1 in men? Argentina, another pretty soccer style. Just admit that US womens simply had a huge head start. yes, they had a good run in the Olympics but very disappointing in the years prior including an embarrassing exit at last World Cup. Cat and Girma are probably the only two superstars we have on the roster at this moment. And dont even start with Trin. My 12 year old has a better first touch. But she is fast, i will give her that.
