He was initially not on the coaching slate when it first came out. To ask him to come back after that is a little disingenuous, no?

I assumed from how the situation was worded was the coach wanted to leave GFR so that's why he wasn't on the coaching slate.

WHy you would want to leave an established club for a team that might not have enough players is a bit of a mystery.

Because GFR is still kind of a mess? Just guessing

How is GFR a mess? Most of my sons HYS team went to their tryouts and are leaving for GFR. We have not decided yet.

2010 boys?

Correct.

Which 2010 team? RL or lower?

RL

What’s the reason for the unhappiness? Coaching?

Coaches left HYS and the GFR teams are pretty solid, competitive with good coaching. No reason to stay at HYS if you can get a spot at GFR.

the 2010 team was bait and switch with the best coach when Herndon knew all along he was planning on leaving in the fall, then they hired a tool to replace him

^^as well as all the complaints all the older boy teams had all year with the too crowded fields (not a problem prior year, what changed)- never had a practice with more than 25% of field, we played in a lot less tournaments than prior years for more cost (we only did 3 all year, don't know what happened to the fourth that we paid for), only fall tournament was a joke, should have been doing showcases in fall. Club does not listen to parents. We took the spot on the team for the coach who left and then new coach was not good.

Did you get a refund for the canceled fourth tournament? The team fee is $500 or $600 per player. If you only played 3 tournaments you should be getting 25% of that refunded.

Isn’t it a different coach next year though?

Our team played a lot fewer tournaments this year then previous years but we did get our paid-for four in.

The Villareal tournament debacal was a real embarassment for the club.

Hopefully the teams will go back to playing Loudoun Premier Cup or Revolution showcase for fall preseason. I would much rather do two falls and two springs then those December and February "showcases" -the weather is terrible and no one wants to go all the way to "Visit Raleigh" on a random school week with Friday games under the pretense that college scouts are lurking around the 10th division fields. My high schooler had several exams that week in December. Waste of time.

Agree on Raleigh. Waste of time and money and difficult with HS classes/tests that week, that time of year is difficult with college apps etc.

A pre-season Labor Day showcase, something around Columbus day, VDA and Jeff Cup would be ideal for my rising senior who plays for his school team in spring.

What's going on with the girls teams?

These kids were playing rec and then got thrown into RL at U14. I don't understand how any adult rationalizes that as good for anyone involved.

Why should they care about rationalizing it when they have those players' money? That's all that matters. That and keeping the boys side in ECNL-R

If you are required by ECNL RL to put girls and boys team in at every year, what else could they have done? People accepted an offer for their kid (boy or girl) to play on an RL team, you can't have them show up in September and they are playing in NCSL instead.
