Why don't DC women take a little time to spruce up?

I wonder why so many women in this city refuse to get a good haircut, good makeup and a wardrobe from this decade. Coming from a Southern town most women even in their late 30s and 40s understand the confidence it instills in oneself to look your best always. We could film a season's worth of What Not to Wear in my kid's school carpool lane. It must not be the money because I know that they can afford it, if they can afford to plunk down $800,000 or a million on a house on Lowell. Get a grip ladies. Embrace your beauty.

Trollin' . . . will people take the bait?

Good grief. Yes, you southerns are skinnier, better looking and just better people.

More makeup doesn't mean prettier, doll face.

I have a good haircut and highlights. My makeup is flattering but bare bones and not trendy. I've added a few newer things to my wardrobe in the past couple of years.

Things that are more important to me: my family, my job, my friends, my volunter commitments. I'd move to Atlanta if I wanted to spend my life dolled up.

Family, church, career, cooking and housework, errands, volunteering, pets, reading, keeping up with current events, sports/exercise, hobbies. These take more time than I have every week, and I'm just not interested in sacrificing any of them to style my hair, apply makeup, or spend time at the mall trying on the latest clothes. Sorry.

Let me guess. You're hair is coiffed, you wear red cardigans, boat shoes and gold jewelry. You love red or pink lipstick and white diamonds perfume. Amirite? Eh? Any women who wears anything else or who perhaps has a different style is just being lazy and letting her self go.

OP, no apologies for not being on your bandwagon. No interest either. It clearly does not make you happier.

Are you one of those ladies who wear makeup and big earrings to the gym, OP?

I haven't gotten my long, wavy hair cut in over a year. I am far more confident and sexy in my Old Navy yoga pants and tank top than you are, OP, because I know I'm beautiful without the need for a bunch of fancy clothes and makeup to "help".

My husband agrees, and I get hit on a lot despite my ponytail and no makeup. It's called being comfortable with yourself, try it sometime.

And probably runs with her hair down.

Actually, sweating and working out probably isn't lady-like enough so...

Totally agree. You can't buy confidence at Nordstrom, though so many seem to try. Shame... it's the best accessory a woman can have.

Instead of decorating myself, I spend my time enriching my life (reading, spending time with my family, enjoying the outdoors, etc). DH thinks I'm lovely without a coat of paint on my face and overdone hair.

I'm not a bird in a cage, it's not my job to look pretty.

Thank you, Paula Deen.
