Well actually our criminal justice system is the ultimate reality show - free and open to the public nearly 100% of the time. Just mind your manners in the audience, please! ~ former prosecutor |
He is apparently not sad and he confided in AP, in between trips to NYC and going to see FOB. I wonder if she/her family had glimpses of how could he could be prior to this? Maybe he was good at masking. |
I wouldn’t get so wrapped up in one statement that called someone a victim. They are a victim, but that doesn’t also mean they’re not responsible in some part for the crime. |
They also said it was an open and ongoing investigation. If forensics supported that JR had killed anyone that would not be the case. They would not have slightly overcharged AP and locked her up to encourage her to flip. Had JR been the killer, she likely would not have been charged as it would have been self defense. LE does not typically refer to killers as "victims." |
Good point. Former prosecutor, when might the trial date for AP be set with a prelim on 1/17? |
This is totally wrong. They were all in the house at the time JR was shot. |
That is what her lawyer has claimed. If you look back at news accounts that is not what the Commonwealth of VA said. Diametrically opposing. More re: what the forensics support will come out. |
Her lawyer said that. In this press conference re: AP's arrest for shooting JR, it was asked where BB was at that time and the answer is "he was outside the home." Regardless of irreconcilable narratives, it will come down to what can be proven in court. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tR0xKBVh-08&t=166s |
I practiced out in the mountain west, so I cannot speak to the docket speed in NoVa post-covid, but I am sure it is slow. Before covid we would typically see cases stretch out from prelim to trial over 2-3 years. An initial trial date will be set much sooner of course with a nod to speedy trial, but typically defense will waive speedy and will stretch things out themselves as they make various pre-trial motions. |
2-3 years?? |
Lawyer here and yep several years is completely normal. |
So all these posters thinking LE will get BB soon may be completely wrong! Some people are saying the trial starts next week so I think there’s a lot of confusion. |
So what’s the point in people going to the prelim? Do they lay out any evidence there? |
Thanks for chiming in, folks with criminal law experience. Maybe confinement will start to wear on her, she is young. If he is arrested and held as well, pierces the fantasy bubble a bit, perhaps? Of them just seamlessly returning to the blissful days post murders and pre-arrest? |
It will all be reported on and people will learn more about how the justice system works. Will the IRS hold his job and pay him indefinitely in these circumstances? Anyone with Fed HR knowledge? Or would they shift him to a non-LE role? |
