Smoking question

If you smoke, why do you think it is okay to throw your cigarette on the ground when you are finished? Yesterday I was walking into Target and a woman in front of me was finishing up her cigarette. She walked right past the trash can (literally less than 12 inches from her) and just tossed it on the ground in front of the door. I was feeling cranky, so I told her she dropped something.

I have to believe most smokers wouldn't normally toss trash on the ground. I see smokers toss their cigarettes out their car windows dozens of times each day, but I never see people tossing coffee cups or other wrappers out their windows. So why do you think it is okay to do this? Do you think the cigarettes just disintigrate the moment they touch the ground? Do you think they are all natural and good for the environment?

Agree -- well said! It's disgusting to smoke...but when you also litter, you are ruining other's air quality and environment.

I smoke and I put my cig in ashtrays never in a trashcan (it's a fire hazzard, every smoker knows not to put it in a trashcan, with paper - it's smoking 101).

If there is no ashtray/trashcan then I will put it on the ground, because if you put it in the can (even if wet) it can reignite paper.

When you throw it on the ground, and birds get the filter, you kill them. They choke on it. Nice going.

I smoked for way too many years. I just knocked the cherry off (the rest of the tobacco would fall with it) and threw the butt in the trash. There's no fire hazard with that.

Smokers should just pop in their nasty mouths and chew it up.

Cause that's just what smokers do.

I'm sure you recycle everything Miss Perfect. And you bike to work? Would you like to compare environmental footprints? Let's go -

What do you drive?

OP here. 9:18, I'm intrigued by you. I have another question . . . why do smokers always open their car windows when they smoke? Do they think it prevents their cars from smelling bad? Or do smokers also dislike the smell fo smoke and want to minimize it?

OP here again. I never thought of the fire hazard. So even if people disagree with you, at least there is a reason for the behavior that really did seem just bizarre to me.

If you are in your car though, why not toss the butt into a cup or ashtray? That would prevent the fire and eliminate the litering.

You have a major issues. You can't point out a practice that kills animals without being called Miss Perfect? You are seriously disturbed. Sorry if I pointed something out to you that you find offensive about yourself that you feel the need to lash out. Go into therapy, hack up another lung, and stop killing innocent birds.

Have a nice day.

I used to smoke in my stupidity of youth and there is a difference between smoking and sealing yourself up in a box without ventilation. I never smoked in the car without opening a window. I also never used my ash tray in my car because its impossible to clean.

I *hate* it when people throw their cig butts out of the car window. Smoking is a disgusting enough habit but being a litter bug on top of it is especially gross. They don't want those nasty butts building up in their car and have to deal with them.

Oh, and yes, I agree with the poster about never putting your cigarette in a trash can. Definite fire hazard. Same with throwing the butts out of a car window though. That's how alot of fires out West start.

I don't doubt that it's difficult to clean a car ashtray but it's not "impossible". It just takes a lot of effort and is gross. So people who litter their butts want to pass their problems onto others instead of deal with it themselves.
