Oh I agree, and think Harris would make an incredible AG. I think that's where her strengths lie. |
Biden needs someone likable who is capable of helping him build coalitions. Warren seems strongest in that sense, and Demings seems to have a lot of potential to build bridges between the Black community and the pro-law enforcement white suburban and white working class crowd. |
Yes, Biden needs to be strategic in this sense. I honestly don't think anyone on this list will reliably excite turnout, but some are more broadly appealing than others. And some have more baggage than others. I keep coming back to Demings, Whitmer, and Duckworth as the ones with most cross-constituency appeal and the least baggage. Demings could be tricky, but I suspect respect for her work as police chief will outweigh negatives of police association. That will depend on what her direct involvement was in problem cases, which I'm sure the vetting is exploring as we speak. |
I’m a black PP who has been a hard no against Kamala as VP and hard yes for AG. I’m conflicted about this now, where before I was comfortable equally for Whitmer/Warren/Demings.
While I see modifications in her warmth and efforts to connect more with a personality, she is still very lukewarm about everything. She doesn’t seem like she would go to bat and put her butt on the line but walks lock step with what’s not too controversial. Her prosecution history on police brutality doesn’t support what people are protesting globally now. In other circumstances, I’d say she could talk her way out of what with a mea culpa. But she has a white husband, and the timing is this global protest creates so much complexity. My biggest worry is that fellow AAs (aside from those I congregate with, who represent the target audience and moderate vote) will look at her with trust. Black women are fiercely loyal and protective of their black men. Hearing Floyd cry out “Mama!” In the last few seconds of life pulled on our heart, in an indescribable way. I think All of these things mentioned are a huge undertow that causes some unpredictability. As VP, and potential President, we truly need a healer. I think having a white woman advocate and work closely with her would be huge. I also think her oversight in legislation in an AG role provides the greatest ROI in terms of her strength prosecution and would be favourable in that position for the same reasons above. I think it is critical to have a candidate that is young, perceived as a strong left leaning moderate, and wanting help with the white/black racial tension dynamic, economic crisis, international conflicts, etc. That said - her history in the senate is impressive, and there is something that members find appealing in working with her, and that had value. I don’t think anyone wants to raise the point that she has a white husband, but with the race sensitivity right now, it’s a matter of time before there is criticism in the black community. My understanding is a black brother brought her in, they had a bad breakup, and she only dated then married white men after. Not sure if it is true, and honestly it doesn’t matter and shouldn’t matter. But it will matter to a lot of people. When I advocate dor someone, it’s the person that can do the greatest good for the period and moment and time they are given. Sometimes that had been republican, sometimes Democratic in my historical voting. I’ve been solidly independent and left leaning in the last few administrations. I have no doubt that Biden will win, people are tired of the uncertainty, chaos, and disruption that republicans provide when in leadership. Every protester will be voting, so Biden will win. But who will be the best candidate to guide the broken masses? That’s a strong consideration that comes into play, only because of Mr. Biden’s age and the public concern over the likelihood of a two-term presidency. My two shekels |
One more point to consider. I saw how horribly they treated a near perfect candidate in Obama. No scandal, highly educated, beautiful family, impressive track record, even now. It was disgusting a waste of time and resources, unnecessary government shutdowns, lit a match to underlying institutional racism from the GOP. Seeing that they support this nonsense in the house now makes me worry about how productive anyone will be after this. If they treated a black man this way, supported by a white VP, what will the treatment be from a black woman should she become president? How much weight should this be given in light of all other criteria to consider?
I saw how they treated Obama and I fear worse for Kamala. I think she would be very strong in a position as AG because of the legal modifications and work that will need to be done with a Supreme Court being filled right now with Trump installs. Okay, so it was 3 shekels. ![]() |
I like Val Demings and Susan Rice, but don't like Kamala Harris. Nothing to do with her being black. |
THIS |
how can you possibly can this inauthentic? she put in some perfectly reasonable legislation, and some creep, on the day of the funeral, tries to stop it with a completley lame excuse. of course she was angry. But she expressed the anger very eloquently. |
every single issue? every single one? She never uses a normal tone? really? |
Honestly I could care less if every single one was presented from a prosecutor's viewpoint. We need so many things reformed about the justice system AND the executive office right now. We need nationwide police reform - starting with a mandatory national database on police misconduct, we need an accounting of exactly where all those PPE supplies and funds went (I think this is going to turn into one of the biggest fraud investigations of the century), we need an accountable White House that performs its duties by the book and according to legal requirements. We need a lawyer in office. Not a billionaire grifter. |
guys, let's get back to the original topic. Who is best VP candidate for Biden. Do you think she has to be AA? |
I think its a serious bonus to have a minority female candidate, yes. And in this climate - AA is even better. Demings or Harris. I'm warming to Demings. Being a former Chief of Police and married to a current Chief of Police is a major asset. |
Biden might tap Bernie Sanders to be his VP. Interesting. |
