Too little, too late. Move or move on-the choice is yours.

Nope. Right on time. As soon as the BOE votes.

What are you afraid of?

Pretty sure we’ve covered this ground already but I’ll repeat myself: we are afraid of wasting more taxpayer money and time for MCPS staff when these valuable resources could be spent on things that can actually move us forward not keep us stuck in your weird conspiracy theories. We are worried you’ll continue to create divides in communities and model monster mentalities for our (and your) children.

You want to talk dividing communities? Lol! Dividing communities is a white woman coming to the board of education candidate forum tonight just to yell at everyone—including many who are parents of color—about how racist they are. Dividing communities is also this same person continuing to scream at individual parents after the forum concluded.

Keep it classy folks!

I have no idea what you’re talking about or why you’re talking about it. But based on what went on on Tuesday, I have a suspicion she might be onto something.

Talking about tonight’s meeting at Wootton: the BOE candidates forum, which was very peaceful until… it wasn’t.

Nothing like a white lady making a broad sweeping generalization of everyone in a room and calling them racist.

The irony is…wow.

Pretty sure she continued her tirade afterwards and kept yelling at a group of Asian women about how they are all racist?

What do you call someone who loudly generalizes about a group of Asian women and label all of them as racists without knowing them individually….

I think the word I’m looking for starts with R and ends with ism. I’m sure the word will come to me…

Hmmm I’ve seen lots of conversations with some of these Asian women and some things they have said and continue to say are indeed racist. Like some really disgusting things against the crown community. Being Asian does not mean it’s impossible for that person to be racist towards other POC.

Good thing the meeting video will eventually come out to judge exactly what happened during.

Sure, anyone can be racist. But to call people racist without knowing the individuals is ironic, no?

Anyways, I hope that lady finds peace and stops dividing our community. The whole thing was too much.

Why isn't there more outrage over Churchill being over capacity in Taylor's recommendation? Wouldn't it be better to open both Wootton and Crown and have one of them be slightly under the 80% target than to close Wootton and have Churchill way over the 100% target?

Probably because the Cold Spring families don’t mind as it’s much closer. If they want to go to Wootton @ Crown they can apply to the regional program.

Here’s the thing, though, you can be racist by making racist comments. But you can also be racist by letting racist comments slide. Tuesday night at the candidate forum, a man stood up and asked a classist question. People clapped. Yesterday someone put something explicitly racist in one of the Wootton group chats. No one said a word except for one woman who called it out, and several Black families who thanked her for speaking up.

I wasn’t at the candidate forum so I didn’t hear what she said in the meeting or after, but the idea that she is the one who is dividing our community - which by the way includes hundreds of Hispanic, Black and low-income families, even if their numbers are relatively small compared to other populations - by calling out racism is ludicrous. If you hear racist comments and let them slide, you are acting racist. If you ask for people to unify by ignoring racism in service of a larger goals, you are acting racist. I get that it’s uncomfortable to be called out and that having someone yell it is a particularly hard way to hear and accept it. But everyone in this fight, including families from FRES and Crown, has access to the same harmful language that is coming from families at Wootton. Pretending ignorance is no longer a valid excuse. If you’re not fighting against it, you’re condoning it, regardless of whether you agree with it in your heart of hearts or not.

There are a lot of people of a lot of races, backgrounds, identities, etc. who oppose H and who oppose the superintendent’s handling of all of this.

To keep asserting that all those who oppose are racially motivated is unfounded and, frankly, disgusting.

I also can’t help but point out that this assertion of racism is strongest against Asian women. Just look at the response defending this behavior. “Hmmm I’ve seen lots of conversations with some of these Asian women.” First of all, what conversations? Second of all, some of these Asian women have said racist things (again according to who) but does this then means all Asian women are racist?

As in the words of Dr. Taylor, “just relax.”

Keep this energy for HIM. Stop screaming at others in the community and calling everyone a racist.

You can thank MCPS for everything you fear. MCPS created this mess but expects students and their families to clean it up.

Not a fan of them either but they’re committing to it being done and all of us moving on in one week. You are not. Also, it’s actually NOT your job to clean it up. No one has asked you to do that-you’ve self appointed. Let it be messy. It’s really ok, ppl live in messy townhouses all the time.

I’m not doing it. You should direct your misplaced anger at MCPS. It could have told everyone that closing and moving Wootton was being considered in May 2024 when it took Wootton off the CIP. Bit it didn’t. It could have done so again - explicitly and by name - in November 2024 when it commissioned the boundary study. But it didn’t.

MCPS failed miserably in keeping the community informed about its plans - likely by design. And yet when, over 1 year later, the community was given 2 months (over the holidays) to comment.

yet you tell the community to move on….

You are right: letting racism slide is just as bad and should be called out. That’s why I’m calling out last night.

Not only was there someone calling everyone who disagreed with her racist, but she also after the event ended, went onward to scream at individual parents who all happen to be Asian women.

She went from Asian lady to Asian lady screaming at them. Judging from afar (I’m not an Asian woman so I guess she didn’t need to yell at me), it seemed she has a particular problem with Asian women. There wasn’t a single person she marched up to and lashed out at who wasn’t an Asian woman. The whole thing was so crazy, I left because I didn’t want to be a part of it. As I was leaving, I looked back and saw that she was still screaming at a different Asian lady.

These Asian women are not the “evil Asian women” who people keep referring to in these racist group chats. They are just regular parents with valid concerns.

You should know by now that those who level that charge are looking to discredit the larger effort - not educate the individual who may have made questionable (if that) comments about someone else or a group. It's a very common tactic used by those who don't have a counter-argument with any merit.

Ironically, using one person to characterize an entire group is the very essence of racism.

You don’t suppose there’s anyway those Asian woman may have been coming up to her to yell at her do you? Maybe because they disagree with her viewpoint and wanted to yell her? The idea of her going around the room to yell at people is bizarre.

A lawsuit will make political support for Option H evaporate No politician will want to support it if the facts show the recommendation was pre-determined and community engagement was a sham.

WhatsApp and next door have been active for months. There have been some truly racist comments with identifying information showing who was writing it. There have been comments literally saying these kids will ruin the Asian excellence at Wootton. That’s great you haven’t seen it but it DOES exist. And of course it’s not all Asian women.
