I mean he was born in Africa

He admits in the interview that he has never otherwise put himself forth as “African American.”

My kids’ friends who have moved to the US still consider themselves part of the country they were born in. My daughter’s boyfriend is Peruvian even though he came here at seven. Some friends are from Brazil, Colombia, and Guatemala. They will always be seen as Latinas because of their dark skin even though they’re now Americans. It makes no sense why he should ignore living half of his childhood as an African because of his skin color.

When and how did he or either of his parents become American?

They swam here..

How do you think? They got green cards/Visas obviously

It’s shocking to me how dumb Americans are about our own immigration laws. A friend of mine mentioned today how Mamdani just became a citizen in 2018 as if that meant he was illegal before that.

Citizenship takes ten to fifteen years on average to establish because you have to wait for the USCIS to call you for your citizenship test and appointment. That takes years. They complete a background check before this as well.

So sick and tired of the Zionist playbook of smearing anyone who doesn’t prostrate themselves and swear allegiance to Israel. The absolute worst … ugh.

He was born in Africa, lived in Uganda until he was seven, lived in South Africa and New York City.

He is more African American than Black Americans who never lived in Africa.

Oh please. Every few months somebody in the college discussion section who is not Black but has roots in Africa asks if they could be considered African-American, and they get laughed out of town. If Mamdani is African, so is Elon Musk.

Get used to it. It's going to be a big shitshow for the next few months. I can think of no bigger threat at this moment, and probably ever, in American politics. He's going to get the Corbyn treatment.

Trump stealing and implementing every centrist and popular common sense policy has forced the Democrats to pull off the masks and expose their marxist agenda.

Things like that used to be death sentences to a campaign. But American voters have recently proven they are willing to accept just about anything from their preferred candidates.

If that’s the worst they can find about him, that’s a good thing. Compared to Eric Adams and Andrew Cuomo, this is not a big deal

His communist Twitter and social media posts and archives are what do him in.

Filling out forms and culturally depicting himself as sub-Saharan African is him being a slimy loser liar. Unf it plays into the fraudster Indian stereotype too.

If that's the worst thing about him, then New York definitely dodged a bullet not choosing Andrew "rapist, geriatric killer and Israel" first Cuomo.

The worst thing about him are his beliefs and policy ideas. His actions are proving he will lie to get what he wants.
Pretty sad that these two are the best the Dems could come up with.

SOME American voters.
I suspect as his background is scrutinized, more will come out.

Yeah, I do not care. He is putting forth policies that will do more to help Black Americans in NYC than any modern politician. I'm not going to be distracted by this nonsense.

I don’t know: believing that he can make NY more affordable again seems like a pretty good goal to me! His specific ideas seem perfectly reasonable:

Government grocery stores: the policy proposal is one per borough in food deserts (where private grocery stores don’t already operate) as a TEST

Free buses: Kansas City has free buses and as far as I am aware, that has not destroyed the city. I live outside of Boston which had some free buses routes and Boston is thriving under Mayor Wu.

Free universal childcare: NYC has had free preK for a while and people like it. Why shouldn’t be free childcare be a goal?

Rent freezes: applies to rent controlled apartments only which have been allowed to raise rents by quite a bit in the last couple of years under Adams. Percentage rent increases for rent controlled apartments (not all apartments) is squarely a decision within the mayor’s control. Rent increases for these units have been set at zero for periods before and the wealthy didn’t flee the city.

Mamdani offers some new ideas to solve current problems. I just don’t get why he is so scary to people.

I was born in Hawaii - I am going to start claiming my Pacific Islander identity today!
