Total Shut Out---any suggestions of schools to apply in Washington, DC (independent school)

Beauvoir - WL

Total shut down - unbelievable! As a new parent, I was not aware of the scarcity of slots. I would have applied at 3 or more schools. Now I am in the terrible position of trying to find a school after the admission deadlines. We are without a home school, since current school is not geographically ideal for the next school year. All suggestions will be researched and seriously appreciated...thanks!

Washington, DC preferably, but surrounding areas will be appreciated as well--I have to find something quick, and it appears that Beauvoir WLs all applicants that aren't accepted. I want to believe I have a chance at Beauvoir, but you see the position I am now being optimistic!

Can your child stay at her preschool for pre-k? Is so, do that and apply for K at more schools next year.

Unfortunately, no! The support system that is available to me this year, will not be available next year, and the commute is approx 11/2 hours one-way!

Community Preschool of the Palisades is starting a new pre-K program next year -- 8:30-2:00. I think there is one spot left. You'd have to reapply for schools the following year, but at least this gives you a place to go.

I'm sure I'll get flamed for this but now might be the time for you to contact a consultant since they are informed on the schools who have openings and can move you along quickly.

Grace Episcopal in Silver Spring? It's only a little further. And, OP, I. am. So. Sorry. This must be an unbelievably bad year for admissions -- any child who can make it to the WL at Beauvoir would ordinarily be an extremely likely candidate for CHDS. What a terrible day. Here's my other suggestion: go for a ride, take DD out to Red Robin in Germantown, and drink cheap and strong while DD attempts to dive headfirst into one of the giant milkshakes. Make DH drive.

Is it too late to apply to the Smithsonian Early Enrichment Center? I'm not sure, but give them a call. For this to work, one of you would need to be a federal worker (Smithsonian employees get priority, federal workers next).

Consider Montessori. Or preschool programs that are losing kids to elementary schools that start at PreK/K. Basically, now is not the time when/these are not the circumstances under which you should make a long-term school choice. Treat next year as a preschool year. Totally legit at PreK.
