DP. You first. Which kind of POC are you? |
What are you talking about? You’re angry that Israel is not attacking Germany? Why would that make anything better for anyone? Israel did not exist at the time of the Holocaust, so it couldn’t possibly have defended against it. What makes you think Israel has memory-holed Germany? Besides that, Germany is not still trying to exterminate its Jewish population or the population of all its neighboring states and has paid reparations to Israel for the Holocaust. The Nazi Party is illegal there, and Israel held trials for a variety of former Nazi war criminals. Hezbollah, in contrast, was run until this week by the same leaders as during the last war and it is still firing missiles into Israel. Even by the “logic” you seem to be espousing, the situations aren’t remotely similar. Except that they both involve dead Jews. |
How many to satisfy Hamas and Hezbollah? |
Hezbollah’s last deadly attack on Israel was much more recent than 2006. Hezbollah killed 12 Israelis just in July with one rocket attack. (Possibly others have been killed more recently, I don’t really keep track.) But Germany also never attacked Israel. The Jews killed in the Holocaust were citizens of Germany, Poland, France, the USSR, Hungary, etc., not Israelis. There were no Israelis then, they were British mandate subjects. |
White people. So insecure and threatened all the time, so high and mighty privileged that they need to find some niche "underrepresented" group to associate themselves with to game the system, so that they can identify as a non-racial "minority" to reap its benefits while denying the fact that they're part of the oppressor class that's fked up this country since WWII. If you don't understand, then you need to study up on racial politics, IR theory, and western "capitalist" ideals. TL;DR: its all so you can divide everyone else to enrich yourself and create less-than-as-mighty-as-you advertise bogeymen (e.g., Castro and Kim Jong Un) while touting (or ignoring) the evils of others far worse until you don't need them anymore (e.g., Argentine junta, Saddam, and Noriega). |
And this is the heartless attitude that creates lifelong enemies. Real humans are dying. It’s not to be celebrated if the deaths are Israelis so why would you celebrate when the deaths are from Lebanon? |
The Israeli and Israeli American perspective is that Israel is assuming all the risk and genuinely doing the world a favor. They also think it is sad but that it sadly has to be done to save the world. This is what they tell themselves and read on ynet. |
This makes no sense. It is not just about Israel vs Hamas and Hezbollah. There are thousands of humans living in tbe area where Israel is bombing. Have you ever been to Lebanon? Know any Lebanese? They are worldly sophisticated and well educated people. They have not historically been anti west or anti democracy. Israel is sure turning them that way though. |
A lot of Israeli Americans are reading quite the opposite on Haaretz and 972, and this attitude is the reason they live in America now instead of in Israel. |
It’s hard to see how the world can get past this brainwashing. |
They (not all) aren’t worried about creating NEW enemies. They have a cultish belief that everyone is already antisemitic and that if they venture too far from the tribe and mingle with gentiles they will eventually be met with hatred, violence, or attempts to convert them. That their only safe space is each other - is fundamental to their belief system. Religion is a system that reinforces itself. Judaism isn’t the only religion to use fear to reinforce insular community. |
If you talk to Israelis or people with an Israeli connection in America, they were in absolute disbelief in the beginning that Israel shut off water to Gaza, blew up hospitals and sources of food production, stopped medical and food aid, that snipers are targeting children. They put Israel on a pedestal. they didn’t know Palestinians or the swaths of people in dc who have worked in Gaza or the west bank over the past several decades. They had no clue about the evil happening across the wall and in Israel towards Arabs. Blissful, willful ignorance. And yet, they were on the front lines of rights for refugees and asylum workers, lgbtq, any marginalized group really. I don’t see anyone trying to dismantle the Israeli propaganda machine now that they may know better because doing so would threaten Israel. And they will tell you, however sad they are for the orphaned, limbless kiddies in Gaza, that to criticize Israel is antisemitic. |
This is so comically racist it must come from a Harvard lecture. |
How to you reconcile this theory with the fact that like 70 percent of Jews marry non-Jews? |
This has not been anything like my experience talking to Israelis or people with an Israeli connection during this war, many of whom are angry and despondent over what the Israeli government has been doing. |
