Even by the “logic” you seem to be espousing, the situations aren’t remotely similar. Except that they both involve dead Jews.

Yes Israel. Without Israel the Middle East would be peaceful. Too bad terrorists like Israel continue to go unpunished. This is so sad. Why can’t Israel be happy with what they have? They have a beautiful country and still want more. They should accept a two state solution and Palestinian politicos that support that (Fatah/West Bank) instead of the ones that want a one state solution (Hamas).

Now, they covet Lebanon and the extremist settlers who reside in the West Bank say they need Lebanon. Wtf? Manifest destiny is not going to work for them. Israel is not the U.S., and Muslims are not Native Americans with natural tribal and linguistic divisions. Sunnis and Shias pray together in Lebanon. Christians and Muslims have lived for centuries and both speak Arabic. They both eat the same foods and listen to the same music and say the same name for God (Allah). Allah is Arabic for God and said by Arab Christians.

Israel takes advantage of the U.S. including our presidents complete lack of knowledge about the region. In 2003, the Us’s first strike was on an Iraqi church. Pres Bush famously didn’t know what the difference between Sunni and Shia.

It’s like someone dividing the US between Catholic whites and Protestant whites. It’s ridiculous. If Christians spoke a different language, I can understand how ethnic distinction and divisions could be made but in the end, Lebanon in particular will be a hard country to crack with civil war. Hezbollah’s last deadly attack on Israel was much more recent than 2006. Hezbollah killed 12 Israelis just in July with one rocket attack. (Possibly others have been killed more recently, I don’t really keep track.)

But Germany also never attacked Israel. The Jews killed in the Holocaust were citizens of Germany, Poland, France, the USSR, Hungary, etc., not Israelis. There were no Israelis then, they were British mandate subjects.

This makes no sense. It is not just about Israel vs Hamas and Hezbollah. There are thousands of humans living in tbe area where Israel is bombing. Have you ever been to Lebanon? Know any Lebanese? They (not all) aren’t worried about creating NEW enemies. They have a cultish belief that everyone is already antisemitic and that if they venture too far from the tribe and mingle with gentiles they will eventually be met with hatred, violence, or attempts to convert them. That their only safe space is each other - is fundamental to their belief system. Religion is a system that reinforces itself. Judaism isn’t the only religion to use fear to reinforce insular community.

They put Israel on a pedestal. they didn’t know Palestinians or the swaths of people in dc who have worked in Gaza or the west bank over the past several decades. They had no clue about the evil happening across the wall and in Israel towards Arabs. Blissful, willful ignorance. And yet, they were on the front lines of rights for refugees and asylum workers, lgbtq, any marginalized group really. I don’t see anyone trying to dismantle the Israeli propaganda machine now that they may know better because doing so would threaten Israel. And they will tell you, however sad they are for the orphaned, limbless kiddies in Gaza, that to criticize Israel is antisemitic.

This has not been anything like my experience talking to Israelis or people with an Israeli connection during this war, many of whom are angry and despondent over what the Israeli government has been doing.
