I like Whitmer too.

She's probably the most personable of his prospects, very calm and sensible much like he is. Doesn't hurt that she's also telegenic. If Black voters could get on board with her, would be great.

I’m black. But only one voice, of course. Still, ask any protester out there filling out voter registration forms in an unofficial poll, and I doubt many people outside of her stomping ground would know who she is.

She’s been in the news almost constantly since the pandemic started, second only to Cuomo as far as governors.

She has, but so? I’m constantly amazed by how many people - and people with the time and energy - don’t pay attention. And even those who do pay attention can’t keep up with the open sewage pipe of the GOP news cycle.

People don’t get their news from the tv anymore. Period. It’s 2020. I don’t know anyone under 40 who watches it with 100% consistency like my family did growing up.

PP didn’t say Whitmer had been on the TV, PP said she had been “in the news.” And she has.

I’d vote for her on the ticket.

And Harris has a lot of issues in my opinion, from Willie Brown to her prosecutorial record to her attacks on Biden (which Trump will play on a loop), and weak policy chops. If Biden selects a Black VP, he should either go with an unquestionably qualified woman like Susan Rice or with Val Demings, who has a great biography and likely will have greater appeal both in the Black community and to middle America. I like Abrams, who would probably be best for turnout, but don't think she's ready yet.

I don't think the history of excessive force and police brutality when Val Demings was police chief in Orlando is going to play well, especially at this particular moment:

https://westorlandonews.com/val-demings-endorsement-of-controversial-sheriff-could-end-her-bid-for-vp/

The department has a long record of excessive-force allegations, and a lack of transparency on the subject, dating back at least as far as Demings’s time as chief. From 2010 to 2014, the department paid out more than $3.3 million in damages following at least 47 lawsuits alleging false arrest, excessive force, and other complaints against the department’s officers, according to WFTV. (Records about these cases and other allegations of police misconduct in Orlando are not centrally housed or publicized, and some lawsuits are still outstanding.)

Good speech. Still not my top pick for VP, but this was encouraging.

When do we think she'll address the role she played in systemic institutionalized racism as a prosecutor?

Excellent question. Don't think the other side won't run with this, her deflections do not help.
