After-school programs can’t go off-site because the kids have to be available when someone comes to pick them up. |
Oh, you're right, nevermind. I understand now - thank you Maret for helping me understand liability and the graciousness of the school community in keeping everyone safe. |
You really don’t get it. Public schools sub-divide fields for practice all the time. |
Apparently they don’t need a permit. They need an easement. |
Just asking questions. Does Hardy have PE needs during the day? Have they asked for permitting? Is there a proposal from the BGC for how/when they’d need to utilize the field space? It doesn’t matter if it’s Maret or Walls, if the BGC kids are on the field when varsity sports are practicing and playing, any injury would be a lawsuit waiting to happen. There should be dedicated outdoor space for BGC. Perhaps when arlington is brought to playing standards, the field space at Hardy could be used for BGC. |

I was talking about games. But still, every school subdivides field spaces for practices, including Maret. I was just wondering about what the rules are between varsity games being played on a field where BGC kids are playing in a far corner of the field. |
Since you are not familiar with how public schools operate, PE is traditionally held in the gym. And we agree, there shold dedicated space for BGC, in fact, there is a huge fenced in area right outside the recreation center that would be perfect. BTW the field space at Hardy doesn't resolve the issue that after care kids need to be onsite for pickup or the greater risk of having elementary school kids crossing Wisconsin avenue for outdoor recreation. Shame on you. |
No, Hardy does not have need for Jelleff during the school day. They have a gym for PE and the limited green space they have it uses for recess. But way to try and deflect and redirect. the entire situation hinges on access to Jelleff field immediately after school lets out, when there are several public needs...and the bogus and likely illegal renewal of an easement agreement. |
I believe that is what is known as a Freudian Slip. The logical extension of Maret’s logic is that Hardy and the B&GC might as well go to Arlington to find a field to use. Heck, it’s closer and quicker to get to than the practice spaces that Hardy teams use. And DPR has no connection to DCPS, so why maybe VA can help out? |
When I was in PE, in public school, we played all sorts of sports outside as well, just not all in the gym. Just curious as to what the Hardy needs were. It wasn’t a shameful question, but thanks for jumping there I guess, which is par for the course for this crew I suppose. |
It was literally a question about the usage needs of Hardy and what would be best for them. As I said, when I was in public school PE we did go outside and learn a lot of sports. What else might be useful and helpful for Hardy students, and have they requested and also been denied permits for usable spaces. Yeesh. |
When I was in PE we did square dancing. |
I’m confused why you are trying to analyze Hardy’s need. It is not pertinent to the fact that Maret’s deal for Jelleff is BS. And for all the times that Maret tries to mischaracterize the activity here as “4 or 5 Hardy posters,” why does it seem like there is 1 Maret person relentlessly spouting the same stuff over and over? |
