Nice try Bobby. |
+1. For example FCV 07 lost badly 3 times to Loudoun 07 and since then avoids playing them at all costs. So FCV can pad their score by avoiding playing in hard tournaments, in lower brackets, etc. |
FCV08 is in the 5th place in GA so there is no way they are anywhere near to being the top team in Virginia. They tied Delaware team, which is in the last place in GA. |
| How did you conclude 5th place? FCV is 4-1-1. They have played more games than most teams and currently lead in MP. Not 5th place. |
That's what the current standings show. It's one the league's website. Perhaps their standing will change as the season progresses, but that's where they are now. |
This area has an 02 boy and 2 03 boys who have signed pro contracts with DC United, have all suited up for the US Youth National Team and who each have an estimated Transfer Value in the ~$200K–$300K range....and have 1/100th the number of posts about them as Loudoun 07 Girls. Just not quite worthy of the attention as some middle school girls!

VSA plays in ECNL showcases? Has players committed to virginia tech, gw, Vcu, etc? |
Nope. Although I agree with you that there's too much chest pumping about youth soccer players, signing a professional contract with DCU as an 02 does not mean a squat. Nor does getting an invite to the US Youth National Team from an MLS club academy. There were two 02s playing in the UEFA Champions league for Barcelona against Juventus this week, one of whom is already regular with the Spanish National team (not youth team). That's the standard on the men's side. |
Signing a pro contract ‘doesn’t mean squat’? Uh, ok. |
So the standard is starting for Barcelona in the champions league and starting for Spain? If you aren’t doing that then it doesn’t mean squat? Can you explain your reasoning? |
Clearly a naive VSA 08 parent. The value in ECNL is the recruiting opportunities. The VDA and VSA players will not have the same opportunities. If your VSA coach is telling you different then they are not doing the job you pay them to do. |

VSA plays in ECNL Regional. I know that is a big step away from ECNL but there is something going on with the regional teams that said if they win their region they get to go to an ECNL showcase. I'm not sure if they get to play ECNL teams at this showcase or they just play the winners of the other ECNL regions but there is a chance they can go. |
On the men's side, the competition is much tougher so the standard is much higher, because you have to measure achievement against the best. A reasonable standard would be for a young player to break into a good European team. So if there's a young player and gets playing time with, let's say, Ajax or Anderlecht or Dinamo Zagreb, he is worth paying attention to. If a young player starts for Barca or another top team, that's an indication of real talent. Signing with DCU means nothing. DCU is a small fish in a big pond with mediocre coaching and low standard of play in the league; it is not a hotbed of talent. I am not trying to dismiss what these boys achieved vs other local youth players, but I am putting it in prospective. If they want to become professional players, their real competition is in Europe and South America. DCU is a dead end in terms of professional soccer. Now that they signed professional contracts with DCU/MLS, DCU/MLS will be entitled to training compensation and transfer fees, if they have talent and a real professional club decides to sign them, which makes it harder for these players to make the next step. Not impossible, but harder. The only edge US youth players used to have over their competition was that they were FREE with no compensation due, but it has changed for players who sign MLS contacts. |
So signing a professional contract with DCU does actually mean squat? |
