It may be money well spent. They haven’t bothered to answer some fairly obvious questions that deserve responses, however, and it’s telling that you apparently don’t even want to put them to the test. Just give us what we want, and if it screws over other people, too bad. |
DP. Surely, you want more disclosures around the school too, right? If it is a slam dunk you should be able to win over the skeptics. You should be leaning on Dixit to hurry up the sb to make disclosures. I don’t think she’s the one leading the charge here, but surely she can push for the rest of the sb to hurry the f up with giving us details. |
It's fine to put them to the test. Although, it was fairly well explained at the meeting when it was proposed. Did you listen to Robyn Lady? She explained the need pretty well. No decisions have been firmly in place and it seems FCPS MAY be walking back some of this BRAC issue. What are you worried about? What is being neglected because of this? This is a HUGE savings and there might not ever be another option for a school. If you were familiar with this area, you would know that. The construction around the area is intense. Even now. |
Robyn Lady, who supposedly represents Dranesville, spoke about how a new school will benefit Chantilly, where she used to work. Perhaps someone needs to remind her she was elected to represent Dranesville, not Sully. It's disingenous to claim this purchase results in "HUGE savings," when they never would have spent the $450 million or so in the CIP allocated to a new western HS starting in 2031. All that would have happened is the estimate would have increased to $550 million, and the start date would have been postponed to 2041. There was no real intention to open another western HS until they got googly eyes over KAA. No one else in the county will ever benefit from these phantom "savings." |
So, she should not have described the need at Chantilly? Gee. Ever heard of team players? Nevertheless, it is very likely that if this sale goes through, that Coates will be assigned there. Guess who represents Coates? It is sad that those kids have to ride a school bus on the racetrack otherwise known as "28." It is over 7 miles from Coates to Westfield. It is less than 3 to Carson. |
Coates doesn't go to Chantilly and she said nothing about it. Nice try. |
Nice try. Fail. |
from what i’ve read on here westfield people seem to think carson will be all or mostly moved to KAA. and then chantilly fills westfield? or will they bypass westfield and do chantilly kids to KAA and then backfill centreville into chantilly? and do a much smaller/cheaper reno on centreville since 1/3 of that budget was used for this |
We're in 20171 and we would have been thrilled if the boundary study moved our kids to one of the two high schools that are closer to our home than the one we are zoned to but it did not. Yes, of course we are jumping at the opportunity for our kids to have a 7 minute drive to HS instead of a 30 minute drive. |
The two main issues they are purporting to address are overcrowding at Chantilly and long commutes to Oakton and that doesn't align with just aligning a new HS's boundaries with Carson's current boundaries. They can scale back the Centreville expansion, and may be forced to scale back the renovation, but it still needs more seats. |
There will be some shifting--but just maybe Centreville can take its neighbors on the backside instead of sending them to Fairfax! |
We all know there's no test the new school could pass where you would not object. You don't want it and will say anything to try to keep the capacity issues in the west as insurance against being assigned to Herndon in the next review. The school could have been free and you'd still be against it or trying to make it anything but a high school. We've heard all your arguments multiple times over the past 50 pages or so, but I know you'll keep repeating them some more because that's all you've got left. |
No, we don’t all know that. But thanks for confirming that your sense of entitlement is so strong that you’ll try to shut down some very basic and obvious questions relating to this purchase. We all lose when the School Board is given free rein to operate with so little transparency. |
DP. Re: the bolded - can you imagine the outcry if this school had been purchased in the Tysons area to relieve Marshall/McLean? This school may be needed, and a good thing, and a great price - but still, there should have been more transparency. All of these things can be true. |
DP. Oh, great. Crazy Lady is back, accusing anyone who dares to ask questions of being "afraid" of being moved to Herndon. You have serious issues. Many of us have stated - over and over and over again - that the purchase of KAA is a good thing for that area. But any time a question is raised about the *funding* of it, you start up your rabid accusations and paranoia. I live across the county and would still like the funding questions answered! |
