Is this what you mean? https://www.ffxnow.com/2024/01/23/fcps-unveils-tentative-capital-projects-plan-with-new-renovation-queue-in-development/ "Seema Dixit, the board’s new Sully District member, said she was especially concerned about overcrowding issues on the western side of the county. “That’s where we have to put our brains together and find some creative ways,” Dixit said, noting that land acquisition for some schools is coming far too late." Please note: this was in January of 2024. Transparent need if you were paying attention.
It was during the work session on the last CIP earlier this year. Like I said, you/she wants endless resources for your part of the county. If $150M got accelerated to spend anywhere else you’d have a fit.
And, if you were having your neighborhood split in multiple directions and sent miles and miles to a school to spend hours on a school bus daily, you might think it was money well spent.
It may be money well spent. They haven’t bothered to answer some fairly obvious questions that deserve responses, however, and it’s telling that you apparently don’t even want to put them to the test. Just give us what we want, and if it screws over other people, too bad.
It's fine to put them to the test. Although, it was fairly well explained at the meeting when it was proposed. Did you listen to Robyn Lady? She explained the need pretty well. No decisions have been firmly in place and it seems FCPS MAY be walking back some of this BRAC issue. What are you worried about? What is being neglected because of this? This is a HUGE savings and there might not ever be another option for a school. If you were familiar with this area, you would know that. The construction around the area is intense. Even now.
Robyn Lady, who supposedly represents Dranesville, spoke about how a new school will benefit Chantilly, where she used to work. Perhaps someone needs to remind her she was elected to represent Dranesville, not Sully. It's disingenous to claim this purchase results in "HUGE savings," when they never would have spent the $450 million or so in the CIP allocated to a new western HS starting in 2031. All that would have happened is the estimate would have increased to $550 million, and the start date would have been postponed to 2041. There was no real intention to open another western HS until they got googly eyes over KAA. No one else in the county will ever benefit from these phantom "savings."
from what i’ve read on here westfield people seem to think carson will be all or mostly moved to KAA. and then chantilly fills westfield? or will they bypass westfield and do chantilly kids to KAA and then backfill centreville into chantilly? and do a much smaller/cheaper reno on centreville since 1/3 of that budget was used for this
