The girls side is a country club. Argue all you want but it is. Top girls soccer is for families with the funds to buy it and if you can't see the obvious dozens and dozens and dozens of articles from a variety of organizations examining the reality of youth soccer and other sports say the exactly same thing with lots of data to back it up.

Fair enough. I know nothing about girls teams - so you may well be correct.

Ummm. Since the thread is about a soccer league for girls, why would anyone be posting about boys soccer in here?

Discussion had diverged from the orignal topic by this point don't you think? And it was pretty clear I was talking about boys since I mentioned DCU.

The thread is called GA showcase. Do you have anything?

Thread nazi alert.

Boys and girls high end soccer are very different. It really it is not useful to post about the boys side because it is not relevant to what is available on the girls side. Be glad you have real funded academies on the boys side. Does not and never will exist for girls.

Good, because it’s an absolute waste of time. Can always go to Europe.

No one is going to Europe. These kids are high school students and are going to college and grad school after dropping thousands to play meh soccer in our so-called top leagues.

Again - how do you know no-one is going to Europe? All you know is that your kid is not going. Maybe you know about her teammates. But you are 100% wrong when you say "no-one". Some kids will go to Europe. Of course it's not going to be a lot of kids. But nor is it none. And the number is growing.

A player going to Europe changes nothing at all about the nature of high end girls soccer leagues here.

On behalf of the parent delegation, we would like to collectively provide the following response.....”No duh.”

We, the parent delegation, understand fully that it’s more than just a youth game.

However, we appreciate your input and look forward to your next non-sense post.

On a side note. The thousands spent are typically recouped in the form of partially scholarships.

How you like them apples?

Parent here. You see PP, I can deal with the coaches, and the travel, and the other parents. I don't want Europe, and I don't want pro soccer. What I do want is for you to stand there in that FCV uniform and with your mid-Atlantic mouth extend some silence to this thread.

And this is correct. A few years of travel fees will be easily recouped and then some. Some by a long, long way.

I don’t think my DD wants to play in Europe, but honestly irrelevant at this point. College is paid for because of soccer. Sorry naysayers.

Speak for yourself. I am part of the parent delegation and am capable of casting a critical eye on the activities my kids are involved with. Girls soccer is not perfect. My kids play it but that does mean I am blind to the flaws.

This thread started off bashing the Jeff Cup and the teams that participate in it. Two negatives. There was nowhere to go but into the gutter when someone starts a thread like this. Here are that facts. There are still some good GA squads out there. Jeff Cup is still a top notch tournament. Some (very few, but some) kids from DMV will go to Europe and play pro. There are too many leagues and too many Uber travel teams and too many meaningless alliances in the DMV, but that is life. Clubs spend more team dealing with charity events, mergers and alliances, moving leagues, marketing the next big thing, etc. instead of focusing on training their coaches to be great teachers and role models. But despite all of this, the kids still have fun, get exercise, and learn about competition and life.
