No, they are oversight and will call hearings on schools, spin their wheels and defer DC to the mayor. That's been ok when the WTU has been counting on them but employment of this person is "Good for thee, not for me." At the highest level, to reiterate, we should be holding our elected officials to meet certain standards. Why can we have a DC residency requirement when a salary threshold is met but not a requirement to enroll your kids in DCPS? I'm sure his residence is in DC because it's a condition of employment, when should it be different when you are the highest paid public education official that you not enroll your kids in the very school district you represent professionally?

Not true at all. That’s only true for some parochials. The rest opened in hybrid—my upper elementary kid didn’t get any in-person until mid-Nov. Just check out the parents who’ve been complaining about not getting more in person in the private forum.

Allowing DCPS to stay closed while your own kids enjoy in person learning at a top private is unconscionable. I sent him an email with my concerns. I am open to any additional suggestions of next steps. Recall?

Even assuming that is true, that is very different than the "vast majority of privates have been open."

Also they have a business model that forces this question. They don't offer some form of IPL they don't get paid. Most did IPL until checks cleared (or promises of IPL). They also have smaller class sizes and bigger footprints.

If privates could always act like public school why would these smart, rich parents send their kids to privates and not the public.
