New study on relative impact of Harvard Admissions Preferences

That’s just not true. Black Harvard grads outperform other blacks anywhere and many whites. They do not perform the same as white Harvard grads. But they do out perform Asians!

Good for them. However, ther’e’s a study out showing they do as well as white state university grads, if you consider that a great success.

imagine how screwed they be if they didn't go to harvard. Maybe the lesson you should be drawing from that study is just how disadvantageous it is to be black in this country. Stupid white people with no achievements can out-earn you.

What is actually sad is that you don't understand the great education people get at state universities. I know a ton of people who went to Ivy working side by side with state graduates and 2nd tier (JMU/Towson) graduates.

Hey, take it up with the people who wrote the study and assume without a second thought that state universities are second rate. Are all the folks you know working side by side with state graduates black? That's what the study suggests . . .

The american college system is different it's holistic vs score based

And Harvard affirmative action students’ post-graduation life chances aren’t really great. Employers take holistic view when sizing up applicants. They don’t always take top USNews ranking school students, often taking lower tile students, lower gpa, etc based on their holistic evaluation. Black Harvard graduates apparently don’t do well in the labor force under holistic evaluation. Same thing Harvard is doing.

Have you ever worked with or known black grads from Harvard undergrad? How about from the Ivy league?

Do you even have any black friends? You don't know what you are talking about. All students from Harvard have their pick of jobs, apparently you don't understand how the system works.

Well there is another study that shows (no matter your color) the 2nd tier at Harvard do not outperform the top of a state school. Seems like 2nd tier Harvard grads get all butt hurt when they are around others smarter and fizzle out. The 2nd tier that tend to perform well though are athletes, musicians, etc... since their self esteem is not all wrapped up in their test scores.

What is the source of this info? In computer science or other practical fields, seniors around January meet recruiters who come to their campus and sign up for jobs there. But this is true at state universities. But I don’t know if liberal arts majors at harvard get to pick their jobs. That would be interesting. You’re not saying that they’re better connected through their alumni network and hence has a better chance. You’re saying they get to pick their jobs. So what is your source.?

And you should quit insulting people here with a question about if I have any black friends.

You don't understand the study. The study showed if you send a resume out that says "Daquan Jackson, BA Economics, Harvard, 3.8 GPA" (black name) it gets the same number of hits as "Ronny Witherspoon, BA Economics, UMass Amherst, 3.8 GPA" (white name).

That study says nothing about the quality of Harvard education and everything about hiring managers.

Harvard College is a liberal arts college. All majors from computer science on down to comparative religion are liberal arts majors. Be more specific about what you mean.

They probably know that the objective measures between the two students are similar.

Yes, HR drones are probably up on such things.

You're the one making blanket dismissals of entire academic disciplinary areas and possibly races. I'm being a little obnoxious, but the presumption is all with you. Be specific about what you mean or shut up.

There you go again from a confirmed obnoxious person.
