The competition in their GDA division was much weaker than the teams they face in ECNL. Facing stronger opponents will lead to better development. It was the right move for the club. Very difficult to read that last post, could have been written by an ardent VDA supporter or perhaps not. VDA was in GDA for a year. Zero of the VDA GDA teams were topping the division. bottom of the division for u19/18, u17/16, and mid division for u15? While I agree facing better competition will lead to better development, it's hard to believe the league change argument lies with better competition. At a minimum, 2017-2018 ECNL competition was generally stronger in the older age groups during the introduction of the GDA, as older ECNL players didn't need to move to GDA because they already had adequate exposure, which was the league was in place for. If you were already in front of college coaches and had your team, it'd be a no-brainer decision to stay with your ECNL team. The next age groups provide for different landscapes. The most important point of this discussion is still undisclosed, if Letts was only at VDA for a year as ECNL Director what does this mean to players who may consider VDA a future choice about the commitment to girls soccer since he was the coach of the 2006s who were arguably their best hope. As a parent interested in understanding the culture/fit of a club for my player, it's kind of important. I'm sure VDA is going to say "nothings changed", but they let the ECNL Director go... there has got to be some change afoot. from https://www.soccerwire.com/news/virginia-development-academy-hires-scott-letts-as-ecnl-director/ |

| From the players and their families that I know personally who left VDA when it left the DA for the ECNL, one of the complaints was too much parental influence on the coaching. They said coaches who don't cow to parental demands don't last. I haven't seen Letts recently but he coached for VCU, RU, ODP, and everything I saw about him back then was the general toolkit of a good coach. I wouldn't be surprised if it turned out to be political. Sometimes these things are, and I'm not just saying VDA. |
How the hell would you know. It is likely a bitter former VDA parent. Just stop with the idle gossip. Just like with Alexandria people don’t care about it. You seem very invested in something that has been dealt with. Go away |
| Girls' soccer in NoVa is just a mess. I don't know where to put my kid. Feels like there's no good option right now. So discouraging. |
Metro is very health, pls give it a try. |
Try MU. I know this forum beats on it, but most of the teams are solid, more will improve into next year, the parents are generally good people, and the coaches are wonderful. They are really invested in the players. |
Whatever, you want development with the best players, FCV. |
I think for rising age groups FCV lacks that claim. Lots of clubs like Loudoun are keeping their players. The old two horse race of FCV and McLean is over. Dilution is real and wearing any particular club patch is no longer an indicator of future success. |
| Wow! 10 pages deleted? What in the world?? |
You keep saying this wishing it will finally happen. People have been saying this for multiple years and it never has happened. But this time it will, right? Give it a rest. Loudoun had its day in the sun and made some bad decisions. Now if FCV ever actually moves out of their backyard, maybe Loudoun can make a resurgence. Until that happens, we can count on you being wrong year after year. |
When did vda become fcv? |
Dilution is real. Kids are more likely to stay where they started playing because just about every club has some form of showcase pathway. How many Loudoun kids flocked to FCV for ID sessions? How many VSA, CYA? What ALL clubs are starting to see is that the kids you get at U9/U10 will be the core foundation moving forward. |
| Loudoun U13 girls are the number 1 team in the nation. FCV beats a diluted DA league which no one ever signs up for. |
