They should have stayed in the DA on the girls' side. They were a better club and had stronger teams.
Sorry to break it to you but all the teams have almost the same players on them. 03 team got better under Scott and has Quan now. Time will tell. 04 good team needs better coaching and a want to win, 05 trash needs better coaching but has a lot of talent, 06 great team will need a great coach to continue, 07 good team has a good coach, 08 will be a great team will need a great coach.
The competition in their GDA division was much weaker than the teams they face in ECNL. Facing stronger opponents will lead to better development. It was the right move for the club.
Very difficult to read that last post, could have been written by an ardent VDA supporter or perhaps not. VDA was in GDA for a year. Zero of the VDA GDA teams were topping the division. bottom of the division for u19/18, u17/16, and mid division for u15? While I agree facing better competition will lead to better development, it's hard to believe the league change argument lies with better competition. At a minimum, 2017-2018 ECNL competition was generally stronger in the older age groups during the introduction of the GDA, as older ECNL players didn't need to move to GDA because they already had adequate exposure, which was the league was in place for. If you were already in front of college coaches and had your team, it'd be a no-brainer decision to stay with your ECNL team. The next age groups provide for different landscapes. The most important point of this discussion is still undisclosed, if Letts was only at VDA for a year as ECNL Director what does this mean to players who may consider VDA a future choice about the commitment to girls soccer since he was the coach of the 2006s who were arguably their best hope. As a parent interested in understanding the culture/fit of a club for my player, it's kind of important. I'm sure VDA is going to say "nothings changed", but they let the ECNL Director go... there has got to be some change afoot.
“The opportunity to bring someone with Scott’s experience at the collegiate and youth levels to VDA is tremendous,” said Mike Cullina, Executive Director. “This appointment demonstrates our commitment to our players and establishing one of the best coaching staffs in the Northern Virginia to help our players reach their goals.” “I’m absolutely ecstatic to have the opportunity that VDA has provided me to become the ECNL Director,” said Scott Letts. “As soon as I spoke with Mike [Cullina] and Matt [Lacey], I knew we had very similar ideas and beliefs in player development to become a very successful program in the ECNL. I look forward to working with the VDA family and would like to thank VDA for granting me this fantastic opportunity.” “This is a fantastic appointment for our girls’ program moving forward,” said Matt Lacey, Director of Coaching. “I have known Scott for over 6 years and have always been impressed with his professionalism and passion to develop female soccer players at all levels. He has shown he is a person who shares our core values, which will help us transition our girls’ program into the ECNL. His experience in the college recruitment process will provide us with a new direction to help our players achieve their college aspirations.” Letts will officially join VDA on May 1, 2018.
from https://www.soccerwire.com/news/virginia-development-academy-hires-scott-letts-as-ecnl-director/
Previous posts quote format bad, revised the quote formatting
