And vacuous. You’d be better off in Potomac. Quiet, spacious, convenient, much better schools than CC,AND prestigious |
Totally agree with all of this. I'm sure if I had the time I could research a good neighborhood with good schools in many other places. But time is money so I just made a beeline for Chevy Chase where I was reasonably sure I could find a good neighborhood in a good location with good schools rather quickly. |
No, I grew up in CC too and while I find the "I'd only live in X neighborhoods" person repulsive, he's my people and as a tribe we could never live in Potomac. I mean I could, but I'm practically expatriated. Also I wouldn't live in Potomac actually, ew. |
No, the Hill, even the nice "safe" parts, is not prestigious (but neither is Arlington). -Former Hill homeowner |
Convenient? For what? I can walk to the metro and the cinema, shops, and restaurants in Bethesda from my home in ch ch md. In Potomac you can’t walk to shit. |
No, I wouldn’t live in Potomac. It’s too far from DC and no metro. Part of why ChCh is prestigious and exclusive is because it’s not that big/limited houses. Most streets and houses are attractive. Potomac is big and there are some crappy and tacky areas. It’s more new money. But mostly it’s too far from the city. |
A lot of people know what areas of their hometown are considered prestigious/cool/affluent/desirable etc. If you’re UMC and grew up in Chevy Chase you wouldn’t want to move to Gaithersburg or some other far away suburb. |
"Upper Middle Class" is just a term your parents taught you so you wouldn't be paralyzed by guilt. Don't worry, it happens to every child of Chevy Chase. "Mommy, are we rich?" "No, we're Upper Middle Class. We work very hard in school and at our jobs and we're very lucky, aren't we?" |
Actually, kids in neighborhoods like CC don't ask if they're rich. They assume they're middle class because they're about average compared to most people they interact with, but there are always others that are a lot richer. I didn't grow up in CC, but this is how I felt growing up and attending an exclusive private school. Our family was average compared to our peers. There were uber wealthy families and we were obviously aware of the poor. However, our upbringing seemed perfectly average compared to everyone we interacted with, thus middle class. I remember when my sister called me her freshman year at college and asked me if I knew there were people that actually took out loans for college. It was pretty eye opening that maybe we weren't middle class after all. |
oh yeah, it sounds like you guys were fine. |
Why is it repulsive to want to only live in neighborhoods that you think are desirable? When house hunting most people decide where they would like to live and look for a house or apartment in those areas. |
| Chevy Chase types like to rub with their own, but if that's not your thing you agent can certainly find prestigious homes elsewhere in the area. |
I think his reasons for choosing those specific areas are repulsive. Is repulsive too strong? Maybe I just mean boring and icky. |
| Snobs gonna snob |
| The houses, neighbors, location, well maintained yards, cleanliness of the streets and a slew of other reasons are why it’s so desirable. |
