Chevy Chase MD - What's so great about it?

You’re coming from LA and you’re complaining?

LA is infamous for paying 2.5M for a cramped 1950s ranch. And lots are tiny too.

Sounds like you’d like Potomac a lot better.
Start with Great Falls or River Falls?

Location, location, location.

Omg, stop with the cliches.

LA means many different suburbs .

It’s because Supreme Court justices, executives , journalists and ge real country club dwelling types live there in large numbers.
Kavanaugh moves into CC when he couldn’t afford it to hob nob - it’s what you do there.

These places are all the same in every meaningful sense. Commuting to work and school and the house can take priority. Unless your work involves hosting parties, but even then the house can make up for a farther out or weird location.

Actually though for kids, Somerset or even ChCh can still afford a certain independence and walkability that is missing from neighborhoods with bigger lots/driveways/garages. So if you want your kids to meet up with their friends in the PM, ride bikes, etc that can be important. If they get picked up from school and driven to activities everyday because they’re talented ice skaters or whatever you can live anywhere.

That’s the charm. But it’s not for everyone.

Also the commute from CCV downtown is better than most. We wanted to be close to Metro, so we looked there for a while before ending up in Cleveland Park.

+1. We moved from Dupont/Logan to Chevy Chase MD to get better schools for our kids through high school. My commute downtown is longer obviously but where we live is pretty walkable to the metro, the kids’ school, a huge park and some decent retail.

The charm, location (close to DC, Bethesda and the best private schools), two of the area’s best county clubs, you’ll find a true community feeling.

If you care about prestige, CC is where you should live. It tops all other areas except for perhaps certain areas in DC. If large lots are important to you, look at Bethesda, Potomac or McLean. I find Bethesda and Potomac nicer and more charming than the VA suburbs.

OP's budget is 2.5 million. You think they're sending their kids to public school?

Try Kenwood. Re public schools, there are people in the 2m+ range who send their kids to public schoo and ones in the sub 2m who don’t.

Try Somerset. There’s a separate pool club for those who live there and for $2 mn you can probably get something reasonably renovated with a good sized yard that’s walkable to metro.
