Chevy Chase MD - What's so great about it?

Location, location, location.

I grew up in Chevy Chase and it was very very different. I would not live there even though I will inherit a house.

He says Chevy Chase MD is one of the top places to live in the DMV, but I can't seem to figure out what's so great about CC Village, Martins Additions, Section 3, and Section 5. Seems like a bunch of older houses, small lots (<0.25 acres), and street parked cars due to lack of garages (and sometimes driveways). Reminds me of small old towns in New England.

I absolutely don't mean this as a troll post, but why is CC more desirable than nearby Bethesda where the lots are larger and homes look newer?

I have realized on this forum that there are many many people that find old houses very attractive. While old houses on small lots turn you off, they attract a lot of people. You'll find many of them here on DCUM.

Arlington?? On the VA side, we prefer to be compared to the close-in parts of McLean, if anything. We are much more prestigious than Arlington, which is why there really is no direct comparison. North Arlington is not comparable.

OP, try Forest Hills. You can live in DC and have a yard and a garage.

I grew up in the Hamlet in Chevy Chase. Much more elbow room than in ChCh Village. Loved it.

Lots of nouveau riches people in Chevy Chase village

CC Village (and most of Chevy Chase for that matter) is old money, all the way

Hahahahahaha. You owe me a new computer keyboard.

A quick look at listings seem to show CC being pretty affordable, slightly cheaper than current North Arlington a lot cheaper than short time future Arlington prices.

Translation: help! We were forced to move by Nestle from an awesome place in LA County and can’t f*** figure out why Chevy Chase is so “coveted.” Answer: because it, and n Arlington, are the best of the unimpressive housing options.

Chevy Chase Village may have been old money but its taken a big turn with Media types moving in as well as a surprisingly number of people in tech too. Yes some old money its more a reputational remenent than reality. Drive through the neighborhood around 8:35 in mornings: youll see very crowded bus stops for Somerset (public ES.)

^^^ Oh and 2.5mil isn’t getting the big houses on the double lots. That price range is a spiffed up house with small bedrooms and low ceiling basements.

Very few Chevy Chase Village houses are zoned for Somerset. The vast majority go to Chevy Chase Elementary.

It's trendy and really close to DC, that's it.

If you want bigger lots and don't mind driving a bit more, go for Bethesda or Potomac. Go drive around Avenel and see if that's your style.

I think the best "compromise" is Edgemoor, as it's walkable to downton Bethesda, but with big lots sizes. $2.5mln would be on the lower end of what's on offer there though.
