Do you judge other women’s engagement rings?

Ha! I got so many compliments on my fake pregnancy ring it’s ridiculous. It’s a huge solitaire in probably stainless steal

My old roommate worked in a medical office and one of the docs had a gigantic rock. One day it came up in conversation that diamonds don't show up on xrays and they decided to test this out on their xray machine. Guess whose husband had gotten her a CZ ring?

It's not "me" at all. However, it belonged to DH's grandmother. She wanted me to have it. She was an awesome lady and I am fortunate to have known her. I wear the ring every day, but 20+ years later I still think of it as "grandma Lucy's ring."

But the fact that you wear it in honor of your DH and Grandma Lucy dies say something about you - you value family history and love your family!

No, I barely notice women’s jewelry, unless it’s a huge statement necklace.

I notice them, but I always wonder how people can afford some of the rings I see. Especially when they are young.

The only way the type of ring you have is relevant is if you judge people who made a different choice than you.

That said there are lots of good examples here to prove that you don’t always know the whole story.
A small ring may have been chosen for occupational reasons like the chemist. I know government contractors who don’t wear flashy jewelry or carry designer purses that would look out of place with their government employee clients.
Some giant diamonds that you think are blood diamonds or a sign of insecurity were hand me downs and actually the opposite - no money spent, no new diamonds mined.

So you never really know the whole story. And typical DCUM can take any question and turn it around to make the answer “Me! Me! Me!”

Just because they are old and no additional money was spent doesn't mean they weren't blood diamonds. In fact, it essentially guarantees that they are.

Yes, I totally judge engagement rings and the whole sexist/patriarchal structure behind them. Liberate yourselves, women, no need for such things!

I judge my mom's. She "upgraded" to a 2ct emerald that has visible inclusions. The metal work isn't that great either. I really hate the whole thing. I liked her previous 1.52ct marquis that was so 1980. I guess I'd always imagined one day I'd get that marquis when she was gone, but nope. Now it's this gaudy diamond that looks like a river rock.

I'm not educated enough on diamonds and clarity to judge anyone, and I'm also not staring at any woman's hands for that long or that up close! Some of you are weirdos.

I think rings and jewels are beautiful but I also think that you have to have the style and personality to pull them off. I feel like I look ridiculous and cheap in large pieces so all of my jewelry is plain and unmemorable. My MIL wears rings on almost every finger and she looks classy and chic, I don't know how she does it.

So no, I don't judge women who wear big rings, I'm envious that they can pull it off and I can't. I only have a wedding band. Sad.

Fast forward a newer employee got engaged and her husband bought her a huge rock - its blinding. The older co-worker gets so mad every time anyone mentions the "new rock on the block". Her mood and face changes completely and I sure she is already trying to get an upgrade.

Do people actually say this for any reason other than to provoke her?

Imagine what the rest of that poor guy’s life is like. Talk about an ATM.

I have a largeish ring. It tells you I spent my 20s making money and met my husband in my mid-30s.

I assume a woman with a large ring got married later in life. I also assume, if they have kids, that they had them late in life.

I don’t judge anyone else’s engagement ring. That is so petty. I have a 3 carat solitaire and I hope no one judges me.

When I was younger yes.
Now I’m impressed with the simplicity and confidence in a plain wedding band.
