The truth is that white America would be completely happy if all you cultural minority's just left and never returned.
We won't miss your rap, chicken and waffles, tortillas, salsa music, or Cuban cigars one bit. |
True! Haha liiiiiiiies for real though |
Odds are I won't be alive in 30 to 40 years. That said having lived in largely Hispanic areas most of my life I don't see excluding Hispanics as if they aren't white. I have known lots of 2nd, 3rd and 4th generation Hispanics. They hold onto their cultural heritage, as many do, but as they move up the economic ladder they hold the same aspirations and expectations that others, nee whites, do. And unless things change dramatically, those in the lower socio economic group don't vote in significant percentages. And the more successful economically the more like to be conservative. |

OP here.
Lots of people on commenting that they already live in majority minority areas/cities, so they know what its like. Such a strange line of thinking. With the exception of DC, which is controlled by a white run Congress, true power resides at the state level. Can anyone list any US where minorities hold a majority of the political power? Find me that place and then we can start making comparisons. |
Hawaii might be a good place to consider. No ethnic majority there, |
Wants to distinguish herself from the darker skinned Shephardic Jews or -- G-d forbid -- Black Ethiopian Jews |
White people's 300+ year head start on build wealth on free black labor will definitely give them lasting power in terms of holding on to that wealth. But wealth can only get you so far. At some point, there will be a "reconciliation." There always is. Question is, what will that look like? |
Do you know the history of Hawaii? |
Yup. |
That's not what "culture vulture" means, PP. a culture vulture is one who participates heavily in cultural events -- symphonies, musicales, theatre, arts, and the like. |

I am more afraid of setting precedents now than what color the future will look like.
So for example, I think it's dangerous to let Christian bosses/organizations decide what is in health insurance today because what might my Jehovah's Witness boss decide in 40 years? I don't think the govt should be allowed to dictate women's clothing (i.e., outlaw the head scarf) today because what if in 40 years they outlaw bikinis? I don't think people should be allowed to refuse service to LGBT today because what if they ostracize, I don't know, menstruating women in 40 years (see India). And so on. I want a secular society that is run on laws, not myths and claims extrapolated or cherry picked from a Bible or Torah or Koran or whatever. I think that is the best protection for my children, minorities or not, in the future. |
eh a few thoughts "Whiteness" can grow. I have Middle Eastern pals - first gen - who check off the white box. There are Spanish-speakers who check off the white box, too. I check off the white box, but I'm first-gen, 100% Italian. I HAVE a culture. Yes, we stole from the Greeks, but our foods, for example, have been co-opted by many others, too. You see, Europe is small. When moving from one country to another, you see bits and pieces of other countries embedded within the different cultures. So I'm not quite sure how we define whiteness in America. Not all white grew up with June Cleaver as their TV mom. |
