This! Life is too short to be stuck with family on all your vacations. Take a cruise or do something with your family only. We dropped a couple we knew who were happy to eat and drink all our stuff, but when it came to them they counted everything. It's not worth it. |

OP here. I can't imagine my MIL's heartbreak if we said we weren't going on vacation with them all again. They have the money to travel but this is the only trip they have ever taken in all the years I have known them other than one weekend to Boston with friends. I could see dropping a friend couple, but this is family. I do appreciate the suggestions to get our own house next year, and that's what we'll do to put an end to having to deal with SIL and her family, but as much as they annoy the hell out of me, I would never say we're not going at all because that would hurt my MIL way more than it would make me happy. And we do plenty of things with just our family and with our friends, so it's not like this vacation uses all our leave and funds. It wouldn't be my top choice of ways to spend my vacation or my money, but it's something I'm willing to do for my MIL. |
