Does she go into her church and preach love for everyone?

NP. That is exactly what the Catholic Church teaches.

Modern Catholicism is not about judging others, it's about being a ethical person who helps others. I think the folks who describe Catholic schools as teaching kids to be members of a cult really have no idea how tolerant most Modern Catholic schools are... They have some movie version of Catholic convents from the 19 th century in mind.

+10000 the ignorance and bigotry on this thread is astounding. People are hating people for things that aren't even true!!!

Every Catholic HS requires religion as a 1 credit class for 4 years. 1 year of that is comparative religion, which is what the PP above is referring to. Does GDS do that?

Not a GDS parent but a parent of another secular school. There is an optional course on religion for those who want to take it. No one is forced to learn any religion which was one of the main reasons we chose a school like this, where the families didn't think religion had a place in school.

You aren't making a distinction between religions that are taught in secular schools vs religion as taught as part of church/synagogue/mosque. It is incredible to me that a parent believes that anyone can understand world politics (and the mess that we are in today) without learning about world religions. If our leaders actually had some knowledge of Islam and the history of Christianity, we may very well not be in our current quagmire with ISIS.

Yeah, I do. Today's sermon at my Catholic Church was one way to deepen one's faith was to love and have a better relationship with "your neighbor" because we are all made in the image of God.

And then I looked through this week's parish bulletin to see that I could be a volunteer English language teacher, help immigrants with their paperwork who want to become American citizens, sort and bag food for the 100 families and 50 homeless people who rely on our pantry, buy coffee and chocolate in the parish hall to support the biweekly fair trade sale, sign up for the bus trip to the state capital to advocate for affordable housing, donate to a silent auction for a girls' high school in a rural African village that we help support or attend a dinner with members of a mosque and my parish. Oh yeah, us practicing Catholics are just full of love.

And now I am finished with this thread because you want to believe Catholics are horrible people and you aren't going to change your mind. Rather than waste any more of my time on this, I will go see the quilt I am making for the silent auction for the girls' high school.

Actually 90% of all past and current wars as well as terrorism are based on religion. People can learn all about different types of religion all they want but it doesn't help to be in one and think it is the way the world works. Look up why religion was even started (to divide people) and why people continue to follow it. Learning about them really opens your eyes to how people heavily involved in their religions are distorted from reality and loving everyone.

My children go to another independent school and my youngest is in K. They have a unit on families, where each children does a small project about their own family. My children obviously know they have classmates with "two moms", etc...There are a few same sex parent couples at our school, two of our friends happen to be gay men who have adopted a baby. My kids went to her first birthday party. They don't need to be "taught" about same sex marriage. They live in a city and see it around them, though more than one example, and I think that's a good thing. It is part of the world they live in. They also live in a family where there are no same sex couples and a neighborhood where there are no same sex couples that we know of. There are books at school about all "different kinds of families" because frankly, there ARE different kinds of families.
My own child brought up the topic that she might marry a women some day, she said that it was because then they could be the "same" and I smiled and said, "well, if that's what feels right to you when you are all grown up that's fine. The most important thing is that whomever you marry is nice to you , a good person and that you love being with them." She has no concept of sexual attraction nor will she for many years...
OP, don't sweat it.

By the way, I think this entire post is a troll's effort.

On the subject though, there will be two mom and two dad "families" in DC private schools (and DCPS). DC area has a very high percentage of gay people, some of whom are parent or guardian to a school-aged child. If you don't like it, your best bet is to move to a part of the US that doesn't have such a high gay population, or just deal with it as 99.99 percent of others in DC have.
