I am not a Catholic but I can't stand by and tolerate the Catholic hate of DCUM. Catholic schools teach evolution. My son goes to Prep and he knows more about Islam, Judaism, Bhuddism, etc than most non-Catholics on this board know about Catholism. He has learned about these religions in depth at school. Jesuit education teaches tolerance and self determination. Like Judism it is more about the individual relationship to God. Just listen to the Pope. Modern Catholicism is not about judging others, it's about being a ethical person who helps others. I think the folks who describe Catholic schools as teaching kids to be members of a cult really have no idea how tolerant most Modern Catholic schools are... They have some movie version of Catholic convents from the 19 th century in mind.
+10000 the ignorance and bigotry on this thread is astounding. People are hating people for things that aren't even true!!!
Every Catholic HS requires religion as a 1 credit class for 4 years. 1 year of that is comparative religion, which is what the PP above is referring to. Does GDS do that?
Not a GDS parent but a parent of another secular school. There is an optional course on religion for those who want to take it. No one is forced to learn any religion which was one of the main reasons we chose a school like this, where the families didn't think religion had a place in school.
You aren't making a distinction between religions that are taught in secular schools vs religion as taught as part of church/synagogue/mosque. It is incredible to me that a parent believes that anyone can understand world politics (and the mess that we are in today) without learning about world religions. If our leaders actually had some knowledge of Islam and the history of Christianity, we may very well not be in our current quagmire with ISIS.
