Facebook friends and family – PLEASE HELP! That (now viral) video of the officer in McKinney subduing a girl in a bathing suit was in OUR neighborhood. The situation was NOT what is being reported…

A DJ setup in a public space next to the private pool in our neighborhood on Friday and played loud explicit (F-bomb) music for multiple hours (it is unclear if he was invited by a resident as no one has claimed responsibility). The teenagers (both black and white) were being brought into our neighborhood by the carload because the DJ was tweeting out invites to a “pool party” for $15 (obviously unauthorized by our neighborhood). The teens began fighting with each other and pushing their way into our private pool. Some were jumping our fence. The security guard was accosted when he tried to stop the beginnings of this mob scene. Some residents who live around the park/pool area tried to come out and settle things down. The teens started yelling racial slurs at our neighbors and started assaulting people and property (throwing bottles at cars and attacking a mother at the pool with 3 young children). The first officer on the scene was by himself. At that time, the party had grown to a large, aggressive crowd. As the officer arrived, many teens started running through our neighborhood. Many of the teens were being very aggressive and yelling at the officers as more arrived.

This was a very dangerous situation for the officers AND the teens/residents not involved. The news media has refused to hear the neighborhood’s side of this story. The video being distributed is only a very small segment of what happened. This information being distributed by the media and others is extremely distorted and in some cases outright lies.

PLEASE HELP US STOP THE BROADCASTING OF THIS IGNORANCE. The media is trying to make it look like our neighborhood is a white’s only, racist area. Anyone who has spent even a few minutes in our area knows this is an outright LIE.

The unfortunate result is that our neighbors are now being threatened. We have also had cars and property in and around the park area vandalized this weekend. Unfortunately, the press and social media are trying to enflame the situation.

I am asking for your help for my family and my neighbor’s safety…PLEASE, PLEASE do not rebroadcast any of these lies."

I have a hard time reconciling this account with the videos I have seen that show a very different version. I accept that the videos I saw are not the whole incident but based on what I saw, I have a hard time believing the racial slurs/bottle throwing account above.

The pool party organizer, a black lady, says that cops were being overly aggressive. She was obviously there as well, so I'm inclined to believe that facebook post is fake.

Much of this post has been discredited on may websites. Someone made this up and is posting it everywhere.

It sounds like what you guys are in search of is the "perfect victim." I don't know how you expect that to happen, because the police are not going to show up unless someone in the immediate area is perceived to be breaking the law.

Expect more of your public servants. The idea that a teenager being kicked out of a party has a larger responsibility to behave appropriately and with respect than does a sworn officer of the law is offensive. You PPs' attempts to absolve the officer of guilt in this situation are offensive.

I'm not absolving this officer of guilt. Clearly he needs a different career.
I'm also not absolving the teens of guilt for trespassing or alleviating their parents of their responsibility to raise respectful citizens.

I see 50+ kids crashing a party they weren't invited to.
I see no parents making an effort to know what their children were doing. I know what my kids post on the internet because i make it a point to. If nothing else, for their own safety. And when they say "I'm going here" I pick up the phone and verify that they are in fact going where they say they are.

+1000.

But let's ignore all this, and scream racism instead. Much more fun!

THIS, a thousand times, every time there's a cop/idiot interaction where people blame the citizen. I expect more from trained officers.

This may be news to you, but the police are public servants of the CITIZENS, not of the CRIMINALS (petty or otherwise).

The police stopped being public servants of the teenager when she:
- trespassed property
- was part of a mob attacking a resident
- didn't comply with police requests

Except:

1) you do not know if she was or was not an invited guest

2) there was no mob attacking residents, someone at the pool(who may or not be a resident or invited guest) attacked a young person at the party

3) she did comply with his request to leave, but because she said something, he then tried to restrain her

THERE FIXED THAT FOR YOU!

I'm not sure what that has to do with a racialized approach by law enforcement. New York isn't all white, either, but it's basically impossible to argue that Stop and Frisk isn't problematic from a racial enforcement point of view.

Anonymous wrote:It appears to me that there issues on both sides.

Some of the black teens were uninvited guests at a private pool. The white lady and police officer behaved very badly. Both sides were wrong.

However, I didn't really see the other cops doing much of anything to diffuse the situation and I did see teens swarming all around the area. I heard them being asked by the officer to 'sit on the ground until they get to the bottom of this.' That is a reasonable request no matter what color you are. Why did they not do this? Is the officer expected to leave unruly teens swarm around and out of sight? His first priority is to defend and protect himself. Those 2 boys came at him when his back was turned. I can't hear what they may have said to provoke the reaction of him unholstering his weapon.

There are too many missing facts here to pass judgement. However calling this an act of racism is jumping the gun a tad too quickly. Not every incident involving white cops and black people is racism.

I think that the reaction of the other officers - to immediately intervene when he pulled his weapon - speaks to how inappropriate his response was.

I also think that the stated details from bystanders that only the black and Hispanic teenagers were asked to sit down speaks to the racism at play.

And what he did to that girl was completely uncalled for. An unarmed minor female in a bathing suit, grabbed by the hair, face smashed into the grass and held down by an adult male with a gun. There is no universe in which that is okay, no matter what she said.

PP here. I fully agree with this statement no matter what the color of the participants are. I wouldn't agree with it if it were a black cop and a black teen. She was unarmed and shouldn't have been manhandled AT ALL. But she was resisting arrest. Are you saying the cop should have left her go after she resisted? Are you saying it's ok for her to disrespect the authority of the police by mouthing off because you're being run off from somewhere you shouldn't have been? I'm not trying to start a fight. I'm genuinely curious how you think this cop should have handled this situation?

And I'm pretty sure I read something on buzzfeed about a white girl being handcuffed.

"Stone told BuzzFeed News that when she approached the officers to explain what had happened in the pool the cop featured in the video ordered that she be handcuffed. “I asked why I was in handcuffs and he wouldn’t tell me,” she said, adding that she was the only white person handcuffed."

He told them to leave. She was leaving. He had to chase after her, grab her by the hair and wrestle her to the ground.

As for how I think he should have handled the situation, I think that he should have either told everyone on the scene to sit down or told them all to leave. This girl was leaving per instructions. He lost his temper because she talked back to him while she was doing what she was instructed to do.

I think people should generally be respectful of other people, but I expect a lot more from an adult, particularly a police officer, than I do from a 14-year-old girl who just got kicked out of a pool party. He was in the wrong, completely, and he should be fired.

The girl in the vidoe was mouthing off and this was getting the other kifds riled up-which could have made the whole situation worse. The girl deserved to be tackled-she is an idiot who should learn to STFU when told to! Especially by a police officer.

But running off at the mouth is not illegal[/quote]

But it will get you in trouble with police-if you do not want trouble do what they say-sit down or leave is not asking much-shut up and leave-the problem with these kids is they are disrespectful to authority-if they quietly left there would not have been an issue!

THEY WERE 15 YEAR OLDS WHO WERE WAITING FOR THEIR RIDES GENIUS!!!!!!! SO THEY SHOULD HAVE ALL LEFT AND WALKED THE FREAK HOME SO THEN THE COPS WOULD HAVE BEEN CALLED ON A "GANG" OF BLACK TEENS WALKING DOWN THE ROAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I guess you agree, but the PP does say that the officer was at least partially at fault - are you co-signing that as well?

I am not absolving SOME of the teens. Not all them were trespassing and acting up. And multiple witnesses said that the White adult initiated the physical altercation. So, some teens should not have crashed the party but it does not mean that the adults should not act like adults.

But that is not the story. A black teenager who lives in the neighborhood was the one holding the party. She and her guests had every right to be there - but the white neighbors at the pool didn't want them there and starting hurling racial comments. If the kids were acting up why didn't the white parents go talk to the mother -= who was also present and the host of the party? You all just want to keep the negative narrative about black teens going. SMH
