I wish they would stop saying he was a Neighborhood Watch captain and/or Volunteer. According to the statement on the National Neighborhood Watch website he was NOT a neighborhood watch voluenteer, he was NOT trained to be in the neighborhood watch and he was not registered as part of the Sanford Neighborhood watch. The press jumped the gun a little on this one. |
thanks for confirming my statement. and interesting if the roles were reversed and treyvon shot zimmerman i doubt treyvon would be out of jail right now. |
Sorry, I think the reason the press said this was because in his 911 call he says something to that effect. Now, whether he actually WAS part of neighborhood watch or just said so/thought he was is a different story, but I do think in his 911 call he says something about being in neighborhood watch and being suspicious of this guy. |

isnt the job of the press to confirm the info?
zimmerman could have called and said he was secret service for obama. so should the press just take his word and print that when the write stories on him? |
To be honest, this a black kid who was shot in the south. I'm just glad the press is giving it coverage at ALL, even if some of the info is a little off. |

I am reposting this, with permission, from another online discussion of Trayvon's tragic death:
"It occurs to me now that Trayvon is our "Rosa Parks." Clearly racial profiling is something that the country is NOT taking seriously. With victims like Sean Bell, there was always some excuse that he brought it on himself. Media outlets would report on their criminal records, the past, etc. Heck, even being at a strip club was used against them. Rosa was not the first who was considered to be used for the boycott. She was just the one that no one could criticize. She wasn't a male. She wasn't pregnant out of wedlock. She was just a nice lady who was mistreated. Now we have the same thing. A boy. No criminal record. No record of misbehavior. A sterling young man by all accounts. He was doing nothing but walking back from the store. The problem is unlike Rosa, he can't live to old age and smile about this. He is now a martyr. The fact that such a sweet young man had to die to make the world pay attention to the suffering so so many AA is just so horrible. The comments that I have been reading during this coverage have been so awful. A black man who is very successful told of how he's been stopped more times than he can count because of driving a luxury car and being used to it. A boy living in a predominantly white neighborhood was accused of stealing his own bike and the cops entered his home and took the serial numbers. Another boy riding in the street was stopped and asked to produce a receipt for his own bike he was riding. Sadly he had it in his pocket already because he knew this would happen. This is degrading and humiliating that we as African Americans are considered criminals and thugs first, who couldn't possibly own something nice without stealing it. Who can't possibly be in a white neighborhood unless we're there to steal something. Yes, we are the invisible people described in that poem. Despite my clean accent and politeness many white women are still scared and apprehensive around me. What have I done to make them feel so scared? Be tall and black? Should I feel lucky because I'm not a man? Trayvon is dead. He's dead because an ignorant man took the law in his own hands. He didn't see a kid walking home in the rain. He saw a picture of his own suspicions and his own frustrations. He saw absolutely nothing but a figure of his own fears and imagination. How many of our sons have to have their futures destroyed by people like him? To be arrested because you look like someone involved in a crime? To be accused of something? This ironically is one of the biggest problems with the black community today. The fact that we cannot escape these stereotypes that are inflicted upon us means that we will always suffer from them, from birth to the grave. Oh, black kids like to fight. Black kids are lazy, don't expect them to do homework. Black kids being put on meds because they're "out of control" Black colleges aren't as good as white ones. -_- To not getting jobs because of blackness. Not getting homes. Not getting loans. Being followed in stores. Being watched where ever you go. Being treated as irrational, violent, angry... and never really being seen at all. And sadly, we are the lucky ones." |
Zimmerman told the Sanford PD he was part of Neighborhood Watch. Since the Sanford PD believed everything he said, and the Sanford PD provided the information to the press, it was reported that he was part of NW until a person from the national NW recently reported that Zimmerman is. It affilitated with them. |
Manslaughter, why not 2nd Degree, depraved heart? |
|
This is the problem with anyone believing just anything they hear. Zimmerman could have said he was secret service and the police would have taken his word? What does that say about the problem? Also, Zimmerman was KNOWN for complaining to the police (and probably other authorities). His calls should have been ESPECIALLY scrutinized. Zimmerman clearly has a problem. Listen to his voice on the 911 tapes. He is flat affect. The fact that he is a constant complainer gives him less clout. SIGN THE PETITION for the victim to get justice. |

On MSNBC last night, it was reported that the family did not know for three days where their son was. They were not aware that Travon was the victim of the shooting. His father repeatedly called his cell phone looking for him and reported a missing persons report.
Travon was taken to the medical examiner's office as an unidentified male, as he had no identification on him at the time. He did have his cellphone, but the police never answered the phone. Why would they not answer the ringing phone of a dead person? Why would they not call back the last number dialed on the phone? The police also did not swab Zimmerman's hands for gun powder. Nor, was he issued a blood or alcohol test. Are the police covering up for Zimmerman, incompetent, or just don't care because it is just another dead Black boy. Pick one or all three. |
|
Zimmerman was way off base, mentally and clearly in actions - it is going to the grand jury today, thankfully.
He and his police cronies should get what they have coming, no questions asked. |
|
Zimmerman called the police 46 times since January reporting suspicious Black males in the neighborhood. They have him on the 911 tape calling Trayvon a nig### and also saying those assholes always get away.
I hope the department of justice investigate the police department of Sanford. They let this man walk into the crime scene with his gun. They did not swab this man's hands for gunshots. They did test Zimmerman for drugs and alcohol but they tested Trayvon's. They did not confiscate Zimmerman's weapon. They said the man did not have a criminal record, yet he had been arrested for battery on a LEO. They said he was a neighborhood watch, he was not. They let the boy sit in a morgue for three days without notifying his parents. WTF |
| If Black people were more like Israelis, this stuff would not keep happening to Black people. The Israelis would have retaliated and taken Zimmerman and the likes out by now. Black people stand around and sing Kumbaya and march. |
| This is a terrible injustice. That poor boy and his family. |
