"Limited disclosure"?
Could the school be vulnerable to a lawsuit if they did a "less limited disclosure"? |
| Why are STA teachers sending their children to St. Patricks instead of Beauvoir?? That is very interesting..... |
|
Unfortunately, this situation could occur at ANY school - public or private. Beauvoir does perform background checks on its staff. The fact that the school consulted w/lawyers to determine how to word the correspondence on this issue is very responsible. St. Columba's is currently being sued by the convicted child offender due to the handling of their situation.
Please do not take pleasure or use this opportunity to attack a school which so many love to hate on this board. This situation is a difficult one for those affected and it very well could happen to someone close to you -try to think how reading these posts would make you feel. |
I think you're missing the point. Innocent children might have been abused in some way. This is not about the school or its administration. Parents are worried out of their minds. You never once mentioned children in your post. Why IS that? |

You know there are three threads that leave me with the same impression..this one, the Beauvoir thread, and can private schools do better. In the Beauvoir thread someone wrote that at Beauvoir they care more about themselves than the children. A few posts about private school pointed out that some if the more elite school do not offer stellar teaching or innovative more successful approaches to education but admit very right students who would do well anywhere. With very bright students and parents who push academics the schools aren't doing too much other than sitting back and developing a false sense of accomplishment.

| The secrecy concerning this situation at Beauvoir has made me do an entire 360. After reading all of this and finding nothing in the local paper that makes me think "cover-up." I have decided that we will NOT be reapplying next year. Beauvoir should be ashamed. What a tawdry affair. |
Is the situation secret??? A current Beauvoir parent, I know plenty about the situation but probably like many other parents are choosing not to share. We have received numerous communications about the incident and the school is providing support for the children. But at this point they can only tell us what they know. As far as the media is concerned Beauvoir does not have control over what they cover. So be upset with the media not Beauvoir. |
This is the funniest statement so far about a very non-funny situation. |
I am the poster that wrote this. I will clarify my statement. I am not suggesting that parents should not be upset about the situation because of course we are feeling a bit uneasy about our DC starting there in the Fall. Some posters seem to be very upset about the lack of coverage in the news and media; Beauvoir has no control over this? |

Noticed on WTOP yesterday that a public school teacher was charged with a similar crime. I assume the media will go with the story at that point.
|
You mention WTOP mentioned a public school teacher who was CHARGED. That hasn't happened with the Beauvoir situation yet. An important distinction. |
| And one that PP clearly recognizes. |
| People are covered all the time in the news who are under suspicion for a crime but who have not yet been charged. News media personel are always very careful to say that this individual is "being looked at closely" or is "under suspicion" and "who has not yet been named a suspect" etc. Yet the story would still be reported on in the news. This reeks of a cover-up to me. |

Well apparently the teacher has disappeared and Beauvoir is to blame for his "escape." The school was supposed to call the police and either let them escort the teacher off campus and to the police station for questioning, or have their security hold the teacher and wait for the police to take him away for questioning. Instead, Beauvoir (in perhaps an attempt to avoid media scrutiny?) had security escort him off campus and did not hold him for police, although they did call the police. The Washington police are not happy with Beauvoir and the teacher has vanished. How would you feel as parent with a child who had been in his class with him just out there... He has every student's address. I would be frightened. Have no charges been brought because they can not find him?
How many times have you seen a report about a "teacher from XXX public school was taken in by police for questioning related to an incident with a student." Fairly frequently I'd say. Beauvoir neatly avoided that by ignoring proper protocol. |
